Does anyone out there use a 552 with a drop down mount? I've seen SMGLee's pics, but he has a 551. It looks like the 552 is too large for that adjustable drop down mount on a carbine. What else are you all using out there?

Using the PRI or the BC CAM gooseneck mount, the 551 will work fine on a A1 upper.  i have never try to use a 552, but from the looks of it, the front end will be too long for the BC CAM.

I have the BC-CAM on my 20" with a 552.  It will just fit on the the mount but I prefer with the back of the sight inline with the rearmost groove so I can manipulate the controls easier.  Moving it up that extra notch will make it stick out from the front end a bit but nothing terrible.

Eric, would you mind measuring how far your 552 extends from the carry handle? i bought a 552, but want to see if it works for a carbine w/ carry handle. Thanks!

With the mounting pin thru the  _ groove (from rear) total distance from the front edge of the carry handle is _

1st     N/A - angled piece of metal prohibitive
2nd     about 7 7/8"
3rd     about 8 3/8"
4th     about 8 15/16"
5th     about 9 1/2"

Note - just the mount by itself is approx 6 1/8" from the front edge of the carry handle

Hope that helps.

thanks! i measured the distance between the carry handle and the front sight post, and it appears to be about 8.5". So if i mount my 552 in the 2nd or 3rd grooves? Where can i get that BC Cam? sorry for all the questions.

You'll probably need to put in pinned thru the 2nd groove from the back if you plan on changing the batteries with the sight still mounted beacause the battery compartment needs to slide forward a bit.  That setup might make it a little tight in regards to getting at the buttons but that would be personal preference.  With the 20" I prefer the extra finger room to get at the controls.

As far as where to purchase it, I know Bushmaster sells them as well as Botach Tactical which is where I got mine from.  The prices are comparable.  FYI, if you get one be careful when you tighten down the screws - I was a clutz and stripped one because the allen head hole on the supplied screws is small and not very deep.  I ended up going to a True Value Hardware and picked up some 8/32" x 1/2"m phillips machine head screws and they are working well so far.

thanks for the info. now it looks like i'm shopping again.

for some reason--and i started another thread about this-i'm having some difficulty adjusting the dot. I can move the windage, up to 12 clicks, and the dot doesn't appear to move. i suppose i should contact the factory.
