...Compact Acog model number TA50R-4 which is the 3x24 red crosshair model. I got it for $590.00 plus $9.00 shipping. Did I do good? Did I get a good deal? I could have probably gotten it cheaper if I caught one on equipment exchange but I never see the good deals in time and I know they are getting scarce lately. Now I need to figure out if I am going to mount it with a TA-60 mount or with a 19s or with a 19s on a #38. Anyone know any words of wisdom? Thanks, James James |

You wanted one and you got one - that means you did good. There will always be someone who will tell you they could have gotten it cheaper/faster...so what. Once you mount it to your rifle you'll forget what you paid for it anyway. Regarding mounting options, I'm weird and like my ACOG on the carry handle. |

I do have a flat top and I do not have a carry handle but I guess I could buy one. My theory is that with the limited eye relief of the 3x24, it looks like mounting it to the carryhandle would put it about .5" furthur away than mounting it with the TA60 to the flattop. What models do you guys have and do you have any issues with eye relief? Thanks, James |

Keep in mind that unlike the full-size ACOGs, the compacts only have a single screw hole for mounting - and that mount puts the eyepiece of the compact in front of the iron sight in the carry handle. Your compact will have the same eye relief as the TA31; but it won't have the same mounting flexibility and will mount further forward in a carry handle than the TA31 will even with the TA31 mounted in the most forward position on the handle. I like carry handle mounting myself for ACOGs; but in your situation I'd probably flattop it. |

I thought the TA60 mount was much, much better than the carry handle. Not only did it move the scope farther back, but the scope is quite a bit lower. I have no experience with the ARMS mounts, but they would probably put the scope up quite a bit higher than the TA60. The TA60 will really put your scope in just about the perfect position. The TA60 came off fast and repeated zero very well. |

There was a good post by brouhaha that went into detail about the #19s with the arms #40 and also the 19s on top of a #38 but I can't seem to find it. Anyone have a link or remember where it was or what it was called? If I remember correctly when mounting the 19s on top of the 38 you gain about 1/2" of eye relief which would be great. I also wonder which would give the best eye relief with the #40, the 19s or the TA60. If I could find a damm picture of the TA60 with a compact mounted in it that would be really helpful. James |
