What type of reticle does the aimpoint ML2 have? Is it pssible to change reticle types? Thanks

The Aimpoint M2/ML2 sights simply have a 4MOA dot.  The dot's intensity is adjustable and the optic is parallax free meaning that once you zero the sight, the point of impact should be where the dot is on the target and does not rely on the dot being centered in the tube or held atop the front sight post.

I'm not aware of any way to change the reticle in an Aimpoint.

I believe Aimpoint's website says that it would be less expensive to replace the entire unit than to change the reticle.

My memory is that this statement comes from Trijicon, but I'm not sure.

Its a dot. There is no way to change it to anything else because the dot is all there is. [;D]

Aimpoint reflective technology cqn only create a dot, or sample one dimensional paqttern reticle and stay parallex free at the same time.  Only EOTech can create different reticle for different application using the laser projection technology.  Such as the reticle developed for the Saga non lethal rotatary 37 mm launcher.  the reticle is radically differnt then the standard 3D.

Thanks for the quick responses. Is the scope pretty much usless beyond 200 yards? Seems like 4 MOA is a bit large. I guess it was designed just for close quarters.

Past 200 yards it wont cover anything because you will be using Kentucky windage and elevation and your target will be below the dot.

What do you mean? My point was that 200 yards was not very far away, and that the aimpoint only seems like it would work at very close ranges? Does the bullet realy drop all that much at 200 yards? Im great at Kentucky windage and elevation(isnt one of those called Tennessee?), since I live in Kentucky. Is the aimpoint just not very precise? Is there a dot within the circle on the aimpoint reticle? Thanks again.

JohnDP,

The Aimpoint M2/ML2 optics are not magnified and are specifically designed for close quarters combat.  I suppose you can employ Kentucky windage to shoot out to 200 yrds with one but it's not really what they're intended to do.  I believe if you sight the optic in using the improved battle-sight zero at 50yrds/meters you will be within a few inches of your point of aim out to 400 yards but assuming you use the 4MOA dot without any holdover, you would probably be obscuring the target at those distances.

Thanks, Im no longer considering the aimpoint, since it isnt useable at medium ranges. Thanks for the input guys, I realy appreciate it.

At 300+ yards the dot will not obscure the target at all.  You will be hitting way low at 400 yards.  It would not matter what the reticle is at 300+ yards as the POI will be below the dot, triangle, donut, chevron or whatever reticle is provided with an optic and the target will not be obscured in any way.

There is no unmagnified optic better than an Aimpoint at 300-800 yards.  They all suck equally since they have no stadia lines to use past 200-250 yards.  You have to guess where the shot will fall and use appropriate hold over. ALL OPTICS are like this unless they have a BDC turret like the M3 Leupold scopes or have stadia lines like the full size ACOGs.

One option with an Aimpoint (this is me thinking out loud - don't take it as Gospel): Cowitness with iron sights and have an elevation-adjustable rear sight, a la the venerated "Cut Carry Handle" mod.

If you've got a long shot and there's enough time, crank the elevation wheel on your BUIS to the proper number, aim, squeeze, then peel 'n eat.
