I have a 4x40 nikon scope no one seems to want so im going to put it on a flattop carbine. it has excellent optics and a reticle i like so-
Ive seen colts scope mount. allows for a foreward offset but does not seem like a rock solid mounting method. not precision as some other mount types, and covers all my cool white outline upper reciever markings.
What alternative mounts offer foreward offset necessary with this type of scope [ needs the eye relief ] .

Armalite mount - comes in 1" or 30mm ring size.

Allows some forward mounting, has cross bolt
for repeatability when removing and reattaching.

High enough to handle a 42mm scope objective.

I concur with AKsRule - the Armalite scope base is rock-solid. It isn't cheap - expect to pay about a hundred bucks for it. I just mounted a 42mm scope on mine, with about 3/16" clearance between scope & handguard.

Glad im asking about this first!
my flattop is a colt m-4 w/ large handgards.

the armalite mount is the same type as the colt. better than the colt?

The COLT base is higher - but it looked less rugged than the ARMALITE.

Is the armalite mount high enough to not be interfered with by the front sight or does its use require a folding front sight?

You don't even know the front sight is there - somehow the scope looks right through it.

It has to do with the scopes' focal length, which at around 3x or so, is beyond the front sight. Basically, the front sight, being so close, is so far out of focus that it isn't even visible.
