Okay, first of all I have no idea about any laws concerning night vision. If it is possible to own and use N.V. equipment on my ar15 for self defense, I would like to know a little more about it. I am only concerned about seeing within thirty yards, so I will not be looking at long range equipment. If you have any info, thanks you for your reply.

If its just under 30 yards (I am assuming indoors) save yourself about $4000-7000 and just use a surefire flashlight.  It is faster, cheaper and increases your situational awareness in CQB applications.  If you wanted something for beyond 50 yds. and to be used outdoors then a night vision scope would be beneficial.  Outdoors and under 50 yards get a head mounted PVS14 and an IR laser.  Still $3000 total there for even the cheapest units.  Legalities depend on your state but there is no problem here in TX dont know about FL.
