Thanks for the pictures.  So gen3 is the latest and greatest I guess.

Should I stay away from the other generations, 1 & 2?

Nothing wrong with gen 2 if you're using an AR. They just have a slightly wider base plate and don't have a mag well stop, who cares? Gen 2 are usually cheaper so I have more.

Why in the Gen3 did they get rid of the ability to have the dust cover snap on the bottom?

I guess they wanted the floor plate as slim as possible.

The dust covers are not needed and I only ever used them for storage.

Some people have drop-free issues with the Gen3.  I have all Gen2 30 rounders and Gen3 10 and 20's

Honestly, I've never had a problem with any PMag version

They all work every time in my rifles.

This in an older S&W./Stag. Milled approx. .010 off of the mag "dimple" and they are now 100%.

I like the slimmer baseplate on the gen3 so that is what i have been buying - no problems with my gen2 or gen3 mags.

Gen3's also work in the HK MR/CR556 rifles, earlier generations not as well in the HK's

I love the gen2s. I have some Gen3s as well, but I usually buy gen2s the dust cap fitting on the base is a big plus.

Gen 3 PMAGs will not drop free from either of my Daniel Defense rifles. And usually costing 2-3 dollars more per mag than MOE they do nothing for me. I sold all of the ones I had and have only bought MOE since. Case prices tend to be a lot better on MOE as well.

The non windowed, Gen 2 black 30 rounder is my favorite and the best AR magazine IMO after NHMTG with Magpul follower.
