Sorry I don't mean to be a pain cause I was looking to pick up my first stash of AR mags and want to get Alu mags with Magpul Followers .. But my old man gave me all kind of shit cause they scratch the mag well and receiver and he say plastic doesn't ..So I was just checking ..

Sure, they may scratch off the finish, but the rec Al is much harder than the mag Al.
Plastic can remove the finish as well.

The only way to avoid magwell scratches = never insert a mag. Any polymer or aluminum mag will scratch the magwell. But unless you have some sort of museum showpiece, who cares?

Just be glad you didn't post this in GD.

Yes, your rifle will get scratched by using aluminum mags.

Your barrel will also get dirty and hot when fired.

Use it for what it is meant for, and have fun doing it.

And what the hell did we do for the first 40 YEARS before plastic magazines started becoming available?

Black rifles, black Kiwi.   Coincidence?  I think not!

Are you running a Gucci gun? The AR platform is a tool meant to be used, do you worry about scratching the charging handle when you load a round?

Lol never noticed scratches in the magwell and I don't care if there is either. Seriously does anyone actually LOOK in the magwell for scratches?  My charging handle, hell the entire inside of my BCM upper would make any Sgt Maj head explode with the normal CH wear, the dry film flaking off and the fact it's always dripping wet with lube. Again, I DGAF because it's my rifle and it's extremely reliable.

There is only one way to prevent scratches in the mag well, and that is don't put anything in it.

As mentioned above, the receiver finish is MUCH harder than the aluminum mags. PMAGS are always a tight fit in all my lowers, even after LOTS of filing. My GI aluminum mags will drop free when empty, PMAGS won't. So if magwell wear is your primary concern I'd go with a metal mag and a slick finish like the Teflon coating on a CPD or OKAY mag.

Is this your rifle or his? Cause it sounds like he just doesn't want you shooting it and is making up the most ridiculous excuse I've ever heard.

"Don't you dare borrow my new truck, you'll...scratch up the inside of the glove box...or something..."

I don't think the pink mags will scratch the inside of your AR.
