| I was in our local outdoor range today. There were Navy EOD & ex-SEAL under contract going through their paces and qualifications. They have cartridges in 10 round strips and were loaded into the magazines with some sort of plastic loader the cartridge strip has to pressed into the magazine. Not sure if I explained this properly or understood. What is this hard plastic loader called? Can they be purchased in the civvie market? Thanks. |

LULA they have a version that you don't need the rounds on a stripper clip they have one that uses the stripper clip and clipped ammo should come with a stripper clip guide so you don't have to buy anything extra http://www.fulton-armory.com/images/products/detail/StripperClipGuideforM16Mag.jpg Quoted:

You still have to put the rounds in the loader. I have shot a lot and loaded thousands of mags. I can load almost as fast as stripper clips load by loading each round one at a time. If you are in combat or SHTF (if it ever happens) you may not have a fancy loader handy to load your mags and your practice will be off because you spent all this time using a special loader. Just my .02 cents. |

I've used the Canadian military (Thermold) stripper clip/loader since 1985. It came in a bandolier of surplus SS109 ammo, with one loader and 12 clips per bandoleer. I bought 4 bandoliers back then so I'm stocked up well on the clips and loaders. One thing I like about these is the stripper clips still work like new after all these years of using them. They hold the rounds in place until you need them and then they strip into the magazine very easily. Works fine on mini-14 mags too. The US military version stripper clips tend to lose the end tabs after a while and then the rounds won't stay in them.

Just my .02 cents. How much ammo you gonna need int he SHTF, if your loading strippers for SHTF your doing it wrong. Many people practice, and that means cheaper bulk ammo which doesn't mean loading strippers just to load at the range, which is a waste of time. I can load 28 mags faster with a benchloader and get more training on the range in the same amount of time, you double load strippers and then stuff into a mag. . |

I do the same thin except I load 2 more rounds for 30 Plus my grand daughter will load mags with the benchloader to earn a little money for herself |

I've always wanted one of those, but holy crap are they overpriced! I don't normally approve of Chicom knock-offs, but they oughta do a knock off of that. |

There are 3 that I have used GI-Spoon, StripLULA, and Thermold Stripper clip guide. My Favorite and by far the BEST IMO is the Candian Military aka Thermold Stripper Guide!!! Also the best bang for your buck. Thermold Stripper clip guide: Pros: covers the entire top of the magazine so will not slip off Pmags, Also loads loose rounds, Rounds will not twist, moderate price ($7-$10) Cons: no thumb saver, larger not as compact as the others.
GI-spoon: Pros: Cheap and compact Cons: Rounds can somtimes twist while loading, Can slip off a Pmag while loading unless you hold it tightly against it, & can't load loose rounds.
StripLULA: Pros: Can also load loose rounds, semi-Compact, designed to keep rounds from twisting, and has a thumb saver plunger device Cons: Can slip off a Pmag while loading unless you hold it tightly against it and expensive ($25-$30)

How do you load the stripper clip into the Thermold Stripper? Do you just push in the clip? How much effort do you push the clip? It is the same for all type of stripper clip guides. You first install the guide onto the magazine. You then slide the Full stripper clip down into the guide and then you press near the base of the top round and down until the round you are touching comes off the clip and goes into the magazine. Remove the empty clip and replace with another full one and repeat. The effort how much you push depends on the clips and not the guides. As someone already pointed out the plastic thermold/canadian clips work very smoothly, the GI metal ones vary from one to the next dependin on the condition it is in. |
