I am fairly new to AR's and picked up a few pre ban mags. I have a few that are externally dated and internal and have no question about being a pre ban. I did however pick up some other "pre ban" and this is where my questions are.
They are not steel as a magnet will not stick to them, they have black followers, have Okay floor plates and an internal stamp, kind of. The internal stamp is K3 and 02, but on 2 sides of the mag. Not stamped on both sides like K2 02 on one side then 02 02 on the other. Are these know to be pre ban or no? I live in Mass and need the pre ban or 10 rounds Thank you for your help John |

sounds like a 70's or 80's mag made in February with month only code
They did switch to a month and year internal code at one point but I believe those would also be stamped on the outside and would have cage code. Okay mags are sometimes misinterpreted for post ban and can be confusing. This guide should help http://www.nyfirearms.com/blog/2012/01/preban-ar-15-magazine-identification/ |

According to that site :
Month only. Stamping on the inside of the magazine would be KXX on one side and XX on the other side. An example would be a magazine stamped ‘K4? on one side and “04? on the other side. This indicates April manufacture, but no year. Okay replaced this identification scheme with a full month and year scheme (KXX/YY). KXX stamped mags are often misidentified as postban magazines. Okay switched to the KXX/YY date code after the KXX scheme. So a postban magazine made in April of ’04 would be marked “K04/04? and “04 04;” not simply “K04? and “04.” Postban Okays also have Okay stamped on the body, along with an external date code stamp (see below for that formatting). Does this mean for sure it is a pre ban? It doesn't mention anything here referencing the year or years that Okay did this style of markings. I just want to be sure as I have a few of these mags all with k3-k5 markings. Thanks again John |

During the ban they added their stylized logo and address, and both continue to this day. An Okay mag lacking external markings was made prior to that time period. |
