Can 300 Blackout ammo fit in regular 223/5.56 mags?

Yes

Yes they do.

Yes, which is why it is very important to make sure the right ammo is going in the right gun. I recommend marking your mags or getting a different color.

You  have to mark or buy different color mags. There was recent thread of a grenaded upper. 300 in a 223 does not work.

Only problem with new color/brand mags for the 300 is that you'll have to start your mag collection from zero

I chose FDE for my 300, lancers for subs, pmags for supers.

Some would argue to use a completely different mag manufacturer for the 300 as well, so you can tell them apart in the dark.

Or you could just pay attention to what the hell you are doing. Because just like the sea and flying...guns are unforgiving of mistakes.

The design of Lancers and Pmags differ in one very important way:  Pmags have a ridge running down the front length of the mag body that interferes with the shoulder of .300 BLK rounds, and can cause feed issues.  Lancers do not.
I've run a bunch of ammo out of my .300 BLK using Pmags, and never had a problem unless I was running full-auto.  Others have reported problems with semi-auto operation.  Some have filed the ridge down and eliminated the problem.  I don't believe in filing things down on a firearm.  YMMV.
Nonetheless, I'm switching my .300 BLK mags over to Lancers.  Reports of reliability that I've read have been excellent.
As others have stated, use different colored mags for subs and supers - it just makes life easier.  Lancer used to make three different colors of translucent mags (smoke, black, and brown.)  They only make the smoke model now    and I'm about to do some RIT testing to see how well the mags will take the dye.  I'd like to have 'smoky red' and 'smoky green' mags...

That's why cockpits are forever being upgraded to provide simpler warning and status indicators, so as to unburden the pilot.  Would you also recommend that mariners go back to a chronograph and a sextant?  Are collision-avoidance radars with automatic GPS plotters only for those who don't pay attention?

Different colors/styles of mags for different cartridges in a common platform is a tool to help maximize efficiency, especially in high-stress situations - nothing more, nothing less.

Also makes it easier when you have a few guns out and have the kids shooting with you. If I screw up myself it's one thing, but I don't want my sons getting hurt because I gave them the wrong mag.

Not trying to tell you what to do, but I keep my .300blk ammo in black Pmags ONLY. That is, even though my AR(s) are dressed out in FDE, and not to mention I bought a gazillion of the blacks when the last panic hit and they were the only ones you could buy. It helps me keep things straight. I'd hate to have that grenade going off in my face, and I think about it most every time I'm peeping through my little Eotech !!! Keeping the .300blk shells in blk magazines seems like a no brainer for us older farts that get confused easy.
