Today at the local gun show I picked up 4 Center Industries mags. They were in plastic and I never paid much attention, when I got home 3 of the 4 had brown/tan colored followers and one had the green follower. The brown/tan ones were stamped with a 2010 date while the green one had an earlier date stamp.

Have I missed something?? All the aluminum/GI mags (Brownells or D&H) I've bought had green followers. Is there something "wrong" with the brown followers?? Did I get ripped off??

Thanks.

That is the "new" version.

Is this new version good to go or do the followers need to be replaced with Magpul followers?

I've never even seen one in person, from what I've read, the .gov "knocked off" the Magpul follower.

I have several Center, Brownell and Okay mags with the tan followers and they do well. Not quite as robust as the Magpul anti tilt followers but better than the USGI greens IMO.

Seems like someone posted the springs are different.

EDIT: Found a comparison photo that showed a Magpul follower next to a Tan GI follower, it does appear that you can't use a Magpul follower

From the 2013 Magpul Catalog:

The Magpul Generation III Enhanced Self-Leveling Follower is a drop in replacement for the issued green or black USGI 30-round magazine followers. The 4-way anti-tilt design increases weapon reliability by eliminating many common magazine- related malfunctions. Followers are made from self-lubricating non- hygroscopic resin.

Had one apart, didn't look like they would interchange.

Here is a follower that fits the current "rounded"  USGI spring.

While the tan follower is an " improvement" , after viewing the follower out of the mag body .... Magpul has them beat easily. The USGI follower has no raised edges, just a flat face... I could see it getting jammed up with sand, fairly easily.  Certainly easier than the linked follower.

Replacement improved followers ( for current USGI ) mags can be bought here with far less possible drag.

BTW, the shown followers will fit all types of USGI springs.

They make the same follower out of three different plastics... with one of them specifically for suppressed weapons.

Incorrect.  They improved their "temporary" improvement (green follower).  The main benefit of the new follolwer is the way the spring attaches to the follower making it no-tilt.  (the pivot point is different and the spring "locks" onto the follower.  There are only so many ways you can improve a M16 magazine follower
