Now that nearly all of the madness seems to have died down, I figure it'd be interesting to poll the hive. After a crazy amount of selling, back-ordering, and now compulsively buying because they're available, I only have a few of my original magazines from this time last year yet have found myself with a nice stack of mags
So, how many mags are you sitting on as compared to this time last year? |
|
Just before the buying panic of December last year I got a few Magpul new model gen 3 (without windows) so I could try them out.
During the panic my local gun store had some but not many PMAGs at higher prices and a limit of four mags per customer. Now my noted same gun shop have plenty of PMAGs one pallet size full of MOE 30rd and another pallet full of gen 3 30rd with normal prices. I'm still short of around 20 30rd mags for my personal goal, I've got approx. 100 30rd mags mostly aluminum D&H, then about 1/3 PMAGs, some Lancers, some 20 rds - Magpul, Lancer, and Colt aluminum. |
| I have a few more; I had a respectable amount to start with, and I sure as hell wasn't getting rid of any during the craziness. I moved from UT to NC about a month ago, and mags were just becoming available regularly when I left. Still pricier than this time last year, but available at least. After moving to NC, Gen 2 Pmags are available for what I was paying a year or two ago in UT, so I've been picking up 2-3 every payday like I was before the election. |

I've picked up a few PMAG Gen M3's since they recently started showing up again, and will likely pick up a few more in the near future.
I'm working though a round-up, inventory, test and (in some cases) refurb of my older aluminum GI types, too. I've had to toss almost as many of those for failure to fit as I've recently bough PMAGs, but I still count my poll response as "a few more" because mags in inventory that wouldn't have worked don't count anyway. |

I added four guns to my collection during that time, so naturally mags were added with it. I also wanted some M3 windowed PMAGs, so I got some of those too.
I'm always adding mags to my stash though, so 2011-2012 was an increase as well, and the list goes on. I now have enough to meet my "desired minimum" on most of my guns, but I really can't afford 1911 mags in bulk. |

Last count was 796 magazines. I'd like to add 1000 pmags though. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1500116_Mag_hoarders_unite____with_pics___56k_beware_.html |

Picked up 60 or so GI Mags during the panic at nearly pre-panic price for all of them thanks to the mag thread. Have 16 or so for my Sig 522, 16 or so for my 15-22, an ammo can full of Beretta mags, another of Glock 9mm mags and probably another 60 or so various polymer 20 rounders for ARs (thermolds, Lancers, etc). Since the panic ended I started picking up Pmags at my LGS for 14 bucks. I've got a couple rocket crates I intend to fill up. Grabbed 5 of the BDM drums for my .22s as well.
Still haven't bought an AR, but I do have 4 stripped lowers now. As soon as those drop down to the $75 dollar mark for known manufacturers (or less) I'm probably going to pick up 10 more just to have in a box. Once I get those, probably start stocking up on stripped uppers, BCGs and various parts. I want to be able to hand my kids and nephews most of what they need for a rifle somewhere down the road.
I'm not getting caught short again. |
