Curious for any input on these. I'd never seen them until recently and haven't found any reviews - positive or negative - on them.

TIA

I just took delivery of a few of their standard mags.  The first thing I noticed is the mags are different that what is advertised on their website.  The mags i received have a relief groove where the clear window should be had I purchased the Clear Action Mag.  However the picture on their website shows the standard mag without this groove.

My Mags...note the groove for the window

The picture of the same mag on CAA's website.

I am assuming in order to optimize production, they are trying to use a single mag body for all versions they sell.  They should change the picture on their website so customers aren't surprised.  The new mags are ugly, lt's like they want everyone to know I was too cheap to spend the extra $2 on the more expensive Clear Action Mag.

I left feedback for CAA on this issue, but they've ignored me.  Nice customer service....hopefully someone from CAA is reading this...

Overall a minor issue, but CAAs lack of followup is disappointing.

Hi Bob,

Let me to be the first to apologies for no one getting back to you concerning the pictures on the website versus what is being sold.  I partially manage the web here at CAA and was told about this last week and was to resolve it and never got to it.  I will be changing the picture today.  Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

As for the magazines you received and took photos of. These are the new CAA mag design and are truly a better built magazine and yes we are using the same mold for our MAG as our MAG17 (with window) because we believe it to be superior.

Again, I apologies for the you feeling ignored but we did not receive any contact information with you initial feedback. So we were unable to get back out to you immediately. If you ever need anything else please contact me directly (my email is below) I will do by best to help you.
Thank you,

Vernon

OP,
I found reviews for the regular mags (probably the old style) and they were good at 4 stars average. However, I saw reviews for the Countdown mags, which were terrible at 1 star average. I have to admit, I think the countdown ticker on the floorplate is a nifty idea. It seems that the most common complaint with those was they would not lock the bolt open on the last round reliably, which is a deal breaker. Maybe CAA can chime in about whether or not there has been a redesign on those. If so, I'd probably try a few if there is the possibility of a refund if they do not perform as they should.

After doing a little research. I ordered 3 of the CAA MAG17 mags today. There isn't a lot of info out there on these, but if the IDF will buy 10,000, I can feel good about taking a chance on three of them. Instantly, I got an order confirmation. In a few hours I got a backorder email and an estimated wait of at least 60 days, which I expected and appreciated. So far, they are kicking Brownell's ass on communication, which is refreshing and inspires confidence. I like Brownell's, but they are very sketchy right now.... just saying. My plan for these three mags is to raise hell with one myself, give one to the LGS that I 'smith at for the rental M16 and AR15. The last one will go to whomever I decide is probably the hardest on their equipment, outside of me. They will be ran hard, dropped plenty, exposed to full auto conditions, and will be exposed to suppressed fire. If they serve me as my PMAGs have, I will get more of them. I'm not sure if any of my PMAG backorders will be filled, so I need a fallback plan or option for replacement of PMAGs altogether. I have primarily used PMAGs since they came out, but I am very open minded to other options due to the current situation. For now, I have some mags, but not enough to feel comfortable. Maybe the MAG17s will work well and hold up.

I have 2 of them. Ordered them when the panic started and instantly got the same backorder email so I cancelled. Turned out the order still went through and I received my magazines anyway lol. One of the best things to ever happen since I got my AR. Love these magazines!

I had the oppunity to buy some yesterday - I did end up buying three - would have bought more but did not think the deal was good enouft to take a chance of them.

After doing some research - they look to be pretty good.  Even the full 30 round indicator at the bottom of the mag seems well thought out.

I will say that the lips on the mag seem heaver/thicker/beefier - my Maglula does not work as good on this mag as it does on all my other ones - I have yet to make a trip to the range with it.

Here is a pic next to a Magpul Pmag M2 with window - note that the sprind is a lot longer and to me has a lot more force behind it.

So if you have the chance to buy one - I would do so.

I did contact the people asking if they had any 20's for sale - I do not see them on their web page - I was told that they were there and some 8 dollars more than the standard 30 rounders - seem crazy....

I just picked up a couple of these today and I am curious as to what the small white piece of plastic that was loose in the packaging is used for.  Its got the number 29 on it.  I can't seem to find anything on their website that indicates its use.

I only bought two, but after checking them out I may run back to the local Gander Mountain and buy a few more.  I paid $19 each.

If you look at the vids on youtube - there is a spot on the bottom of the follower that it plugs into - it limits the mag to 29 rounds.

Beleive that it is a pretty good mag!

Thanks for the info!  I also emailed their tech person on their website after I posted here and he has already responded.  He indicated the same...used to limit mag to 29 rounds.  That is a super fast response on a Saturday!!  I hope the mags work as well as their customer service.

Went back to Gander and they were sold out!!  Dang...I am learning the hard way.  I bought two earlier in the day and could have bought 40, but figured they wouldn't sell out that fast.

I have nothing but good things to say about the CAA mags...  NO problems what so ever and I've got over a dozen myself plus a bunch of my buddies have them too!  We did a couple of mag buys from xtremearmament.com .  They still are 20 or more for $20 each!  We are going to buy more sumply because they work, they are available now and they are NOT overpriced...
