Does anyone know who actually makes all the mags for Colt and everyone else? I see it just a matter of swapping floor plates and you have a Colt mag. Can someone please enlighten me on this. Thanks.

IIRC, Colt 5.56 mags are made by NHMTG, aka OK Industries, while their 1911 .45 ACP and 9mm subgun mags are made by Metalform.

Prior to the insanity, I saw NHMTG mags for about $12 or so.  Colt-marked mags were usually around $20.

If you want USGI-style aluminum mags, also check out D&H and Brownells.

Unless the magazine body is stamped "33710" or "62667" (OLD), they are NOT Colt

As was pointed out by strat81, ALL Colt .223/5.56 magazines are manufactured by Okay (they have the same Cage Code, 33710)

Not all Okay mags have cage codes stamped on the bodies, as such, not all Colt magazines are stamped with cage codes.

Yes, people have installed Colt floor plates on other mfg bodies, creating "fakes".
So if you don't know what to look for, or want 100% for sure Colt mags, buy them with the bodies marked Colt.

Before you start a complete panic, it should be noted that this applies to Post-Ban magazines. Preban 30's, with the exception of the very first 30's with the dark green follower, do not have any stamp or markings on the bodies.

Besides, who would have enough spare NEW/old Colt floorplates to swap them on non-Colt mags?! Especially due to the fact that modern Colt floorplates and prebans are easily distingushable. All mag bodies manufactured AFTER the ban have a date mark/stamp somewhere on the body due to the fact that some states have their own restrictions.

There was a flood of counterfeit floorplates a few years ago. They found their way on to junk mags which were sold as pre-ban Colt.
The floorplate on the bottom mag in these pics is fake:

Only 1 of those plates in the photo in the other thread is a fake (the one that says AR-15), the other one is a real Colt mag.

I believe some of the Colt mags are stamped INSIDE the body as well.

IIRC, some Colt mags are stamped with Okay markings inside the mag body.

And Joe_Pennsy is correct, there was a HUGE influx of FAKE Colt floorplates several years ago. If you compare them to the "real deal" they are easily spotted.
