I just got some L5 mags. I really like them. They seem really high quality and I like not having to deal with the feed ramp covers. At the range I only had 1 issue (I put 31 rounds in it, but I have done the same with pmags) they have the same design for 10s and 20s and my initial testing indicates they work well too. Anyways I was pleased and thought I would give my review. I will be buying more.

Lancer seems to win all the tourture tests they are entered in.  I have never heard of one breaking from normal use.

Where are you guys getting your Lancer mags?  I've been buying from Botach every so often with their "buy 3 get 1 free" deal, but that deal no longer seems active.

I like them a lot, but they don't lock in on a closed bolt very easily. If you have 30 in it, you really have to push for that locking "click". I haven't however used the L5 AWM, so maybe they aren't the same in that regard.

I should have mentioned mine are the L5AWM. I did not have any issues with the bolt. Maybe they fixed that?

I have been buying mine through Midway and Epicenter of defense.

Lancer said you can trim the legs of the followers so they seat better. They come that tight so 31 rounds will not fit.

I really like the Lancer mags. I had a couple early on and had an evaluation of them posted on site somewhere.

My experience has been the same. I use them in matches so I'll often start with the Lancer and use a Pmag to reload to, just because it seats better on a closed bolt.

Nice to know the follower legs can be trimmed to give a little more room.

SKD sometimes has good deals on Lancers.  SKD is one of my favorite places to buy from because they ship insanely fast and don't fuck Alaskans on shipping.

When buying the L5AWM's, you guys might want to consider only getting the SOLID colors. Apparently, the  translucent ones aren't as "stiff" as the solid colors ones and they tend to spit rounds out when you tap the bottom of the mags. Which is an issue if you tap the bottom of the mag when the bolt is locked back...from my experience, the solid colors ones don't seem to have this issue as often. I think Lancer needs to work on the design/length of their feedlips or increase the strength around the opening area.

I've also tested other mags (including the older Lancer mags both solid and translucent) and the translucent L5AWM's are definitely more susceptible to popping out rounds then any other mag I've tried (HK, ROK clones, Various USGI, OG PMAGS, M PMAGS, CP SS, etc.)

I can get an aluminum GI to spit out two, but both PMAG's and AWM's only one. I've been against slap seating mags before PMAG's and AWM's existed for that very reason.

Me = not worried.

Personally I only buy the translucent ones.

The cheaper price on the opaque is tempting though.

I only have the opaque ones and have not had any issues. Yesterday I did drop a pmag from about 6" and had a round come out though. I'm splitting hairs and do like my pmags too, but so far my Lancers have been flawless.

@LCPL4ever:  Yes, they are the AWM mags.  I knew that when I ordered from AIM these were Lancer's latest ones.  I  just forgot about the acronym "AWM" (there are so many of 'em anymore!).  AIM's price for these is $15.25.

I have some and some of the 10s. They are just as good as their 30s because they use the same anti-tilt mechanism in their 20s and 10s (same curved mag). I do not think the 20 round pmags have an anti-tilt feature like their 30s.

$8.95 if you buy ten or more ... I bought 10, and love the Lancer mags.

EDIT:  The small Plano "Field Box" (plastic ammo can) holds 9 of these 20 round Lancers perfectly.  They are about $8 at Academy Sports.

I bought a couple L5AWMs to test against Pmags.

They are excellent, no complaints.

However, they are about 50% more than Pmags and if you perceive an advantage then go for it but I find them the equal to Pmags in every way but no better by my testing.

Now, 5 bucks may not sound like much but I decided to stock up with an extra 60 Pmags as back up and at 60x$5 bucks, well, you see my point.

the 2 AWM will be put to good use as loading them with Hornady TAP makes it easy to know what mags are so loaded.

I can surely recommend the excellent AWM mags just can't justify buying 40 of them for the same money 60 Pmags will run

Please provide a link. I can not find any magazines and trying to get off the main page I get "problem loading page" every time.

My local guy says L5AWN mags cost him 50% more than PMags wholesale

If I can get them for $12.00 shipped that would be 20% higher than Pmags, much better than 50% but so far that claim is unsubstantiated

I was finally able to find my way around their site, not a good site for dial up, BTW and L5 AWM magazines are $15.25 each plus shipping (Free shipping on orders $100.00 and up) so they are over 50% higher than Pmags.

You're right, they have hiked up some. Damn. Where are you finding Pmags for 50% less than 15.25? Thats less than 8 bucks, I'd like to get some at that price.
9/30/2012 3:46:30 PM EDT

With no disrespect intended you seem to be unable to understand simple math ( as in how to manipulate the figures to suit your point).

I pay $10.00 total per PMag in bulk. L5AWM mags are $15.25. $5.25 is over 50% higher than $10.00.

When you work backwards from a number the percentages change in relation to what the subject becomes.
So if you say AWM cost $15.25 then PMags are 2/3 the price of a AWM but the other way around starting with the number 10 and adding 5 (which is half of the subject number 10) that makes it 50% higher.

One of those how you word it things.

So, when one wants to dramatize the higher price of the AWM mags one says they are 50% higher.
When one wants to minimize the effect one says the AWM is $15.25 and the Pmag is 1/3 less.

Sounds a lot like a political take on prices

Lancer's for $13.64...and since your all about "substantiation"  please post where you are getting your Pmags for flat $10.

Of course I could post that I paid $8.95 for 20 rd Lancer L5's, from Aim Surplus, but they are not the AWM's, but 1st gen 20 rounders.  But they do work, oh yea substantiation: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=ML520&name=Lancer+L5+.223+AR15%2fM16+20rd+Translucent+Polymer+Magazine&groupid=14

My local FFL got them for me.
Of course, I had to buy a full box as packaged by Magpul and that meant buying 100 but I paid exactly $10.00 per mag.

So by your link of $13.64 + shipping and to make the same comparison quantity to minimize shipping we will say $1,364 +$8.99 shipping (One shipping price no matter the quantity is advertized) That is $1,373.00.

That is a 37.3% higher cost per magazine.
Another way to look at this because to get the $10.00 price I had to buy 100 (went in with a LE friend);
If $1,000.00 buys 100 Pmags then $1,000.00 buys 73 (72.8) L5AWM

This then becomes personal choice and had I any reason to indicate better value i would buy the 73 L5s but my comparison testing did not show me anything to believe the L5 AWM (an excellent mag) was no better or worse than the Pmag so I would (personally) rather have 100 than 73 for the same money.

I respect some may draw a different conclusion and if you believe that you are right to do so.

The right answer here is the one you choose not the one I choose (and vise verse)

I had one loaded up with 28 rounds for about a year.  Took it to the range a few weeks ago with no problems.  I loaded it back up with another 28 rounds and will check on it again sometime next year.

FWIW I bought all of my AWM from Alamo Tactical.  I buy them in person at the shop, there is PLENTY in stock.
