I got 2 "gen1" magpul mags.  While they fit in my 2 LMT receivers, they don't drop free.

So I tried them in my Busmaster lower and the same thing.

Do they have to "wear in" or is this a common problem with early Magpuls?

Are the newest generation of them the same?

I had that issue with a superior arms lower receiver and some magpul mags (not sure, I think they were gen 1), the same mags dropped free in a BCM lower so I decided it wasn't a magazine issue.

I no longer have those mags or that rifle.

Magpul says that the early version was made for Colt specs but they were having issues droping free from other mfg lowers that were on the tight side of mil-spec. Rev M mags are a little different and help this issue.

It depends on the M# - I've seen some M's that don't, but most of the Ms after 4 tend to be ok

I have 3 ARs - 2 work fine, 1 is tight. In that one, I just use GI mags and problem is solved.
