I have 30 round mags like you describe with Colt base plates. I don't believe Colt produced them, they just contracted with one of the other manufacturers to stamp out their branded base plates. Mine are from the late 70's-early 80's if this helps...

Okay Industries has been making Colt (AR) mags since almost day 1.

If they are actual black and not just very dark dry film, someone put Colt  floorplates on a black teflon mag, or one of the many crappy makers from the 80's to 90's like USA, Triple K, Western, etc.

(If the floorplates just have "COLT AR-15" and nothing else, they're junk)

Back in the 90's someone was selling a lot of Colt floorplates.

I saw various brands of mags with Colt floorplates sold as "Colt" mags for quite a few years.

I never seen one, I have a lot of Colt pre 94 AWB era 30 rd mags with Colt baseplates, and 20 rounders as well

Yep, I got burned on a huge batch of those back in the day. Ended up keeping a few for malfunction drills and destroying the rest. What's worse, a lot of local LEOs were buying them too.
