There have  been discussions on the number  of magazines per rifle, but, how many stripper clips should one have for every magazine?
Typically, most of us have an ample supply of ammo. And so, the amount of ammo on hand isn't the question. We all want/need more anyway!

To date, I've been buying magazines, building up enough in inventory. But at some point, one has enough mags (well, there are limits to one finances, it is better to have some of most everything needed for a rifle than to be well stocked in one item but lacking in another).

So, is there a suggested ratio between mags and SC needed to supply the mags? And how many spoons? How should spoons be located in one's field gear?

One suggestion might be to load all available ammo onto SC, but this would presume that the only rifle to use this caliber would be an AR. I would like to have a portion of  the inventory of this caliper available for use in other non AR rifles.

I would go ahead and put them all on SC.  Even for a non AR, at least you have a consistent way to store and deploy them.  I would have a handful of spoons in each ammo can.

and no that is not a random number it is enough to do 12 50 cal cans battle packs in cardboard and 4 pocket bandoleers.

Each ammo can will have 840 rounds in it.

Basically order 2 of the dealer dozen packs from old sarge zone, will give you 1200, but it's enough.

Thanks for your reply and the math. I prefer the smaller .30 cal. ammo cans, so I'll do the conversion.

I recently purchased about 24 lbs. of stripper clips as surplus and cheap. When items are available and really cheap I can't resist and not get them. 24 lbs. is about +1200 as an estimate.

I'll give Old sarge a look see. Might need some more spoons!

I have Few thousand. At least over 2500. Got a deal on eBay. 2 .30 cal ammo cans full of them for $40 shipped.  Unfortunately I have no where near that in ammo.

The question you really need to ask yurself is how much ammo to stockpile per AR, over whatever time period or scenario you specify.

Given that, my specs are ridiculous compared to most - I believe you should stockpile enuf ammo (if you do stockpile) to wear out your barrel - a couple times over if you think about it.  So, at the moment, I have just over 5000 once-used, and looking to get a lot more.  But these were bought back in the 90's by the lb.  Today's prices at even $0.06ea are ridiculous in comparison, but who's complaining.  (Cheapest I've found is Old Sarges & New River Salvage for consistent quality.  Govliquidation.com for huge lots, but poor quality requires sifting thru dzns to find the handful well worth keeping.)

Anyway, every one I come across loaded w/10rds straight from the factory are stocked away for SHTF, OR If-It-Ever-SHTF.  The SC's are the best way to stock, store, load, and carry ammo...for whatever reason, it's essentially the same as the military's.

As for spoons, I figure at least 2-4 per 50cal ammo can, or best ratio is a spoon for every battle-pack of mags.  That way, evrytime you gotta reload your mag pack of say 8-10 mags, or ~300rds, you've got a spoon available just in case.  A 50 cal ammo can holds about 1000-1200rds on SC's, so 2-4 spoons.  I've got over 100 spoons BTW, and 4 MagLULA's.
