AR-15 and M-16 mags are interchangable right? Ive gotten a few conflicting answers on it believe it or not. As far as I know the only differances are  the tolerances and the trigger mechanism.

Sig 556
Bushmaster ACR
XCR
FN F2000

Not sure what you mean by tolerances. Most AR-15 lowers were at one time cut from Armalite and/or Colt's original lower dimensions (according to posts in ARFCOM), but today, there's variances all over the place. It almost doesn't matter a whole lot because most manufacturers will make sure the magwell will fit the most common brands of USGI & polymer magazines - this is with respect to the magwell dimensions only. With respect to the outside dimensions, its both cosmetic and functional/strength. With respect to the inner dimensions, its more precise but there's AR's with and without the "lower shelf" for a RDIAS, amongother things. Last but not least, an M-16 lower has one more set of holes cut thru the body, just above the safety selector...to hold the pin for the auto-sear.   As for the trigger mechanism, there's more differences than that. The M-16 uses a different bolt carrier and the chamber/barrel are 5.56 whereas not all "AR-15 style" barrels are.

(BUT THIS IS A DISCUSSION FOR THE NFA FORUM, and doesn't belong here.)

As for mags, they are for the most part interchangeable...as long as you go with a well-known brand, make/model. Then again, it soemtimes depends on yoru brand lower. I've read on this site about some well-known brands of lowers that just don't fit certain brands of USGI and/or polymer mags. For instance, I have 5 pre-ban fully functional & working DSL/Sanchez mags that just won't slide in/out easily into any of my 5 Rock River lowers, but they slide in/out/drop free from any of my 5 Bushmaster lowers, 3 Deltons, and 3 LAR lowers. And to add to the confusion, all of my C Products, 2 PMags, and 2 Lancers all slide in/out/drop free just fine in the Rock Rivers lowers.

Not to add to any confusion but I thought i would add that the M-16 mags would also work in PRE-ban Mini-14s, now they have to have there own mags....Dam politicians.

No. A Mini-14 mag made in 1980 will work in a current rifle and vice-versa. Standard M16/AR mags never did.

There were a couple of plastic abortions made in the 80's that were advertised to work in both
