Hey all,

There are a bunch of magazines out there on the market for a AR 9MM Conversion and I'm not sure which ones are the best for my configuration.  I have a RRA 9MM 7" A4 upper and a Hahn Precision Converstion Block.  I hear that the magazines can make a difference in the way the ammo feeds in the chamber and can make a difference in the overall performance...i.e. jam or no jam.  Your help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Metalform Magazines are the only way to go.

They are the original Colt 9mm SMG contractor.

Expensive conpared to others on the market but they ALWAYS feed trouble free.

Get them from Metalform, Spikes Tactical or Yankee Hill Machine.

Buy once and never look back.

That is all.

I have two 6450's and a built 9mm using a 6450 barrel and hahn adapter... the only mags I use anymore are metalform or colt marked metalform. I had many other 9mm mags of assorted make, including a few RRA modified uzi mags. Those other 9mm mags functioned ok, some better than others and some were total junk. The inconsistencies in loading rds and feeding rds was too much of a hassle for me. The other mags I had were fairly inexpensive compared to Colt/metalform, yet for the amount of lead I put through my 9mm's, having solid functioning mags was a necessity.

The problems I had with all makes besides Colt/Metalform were failure to reliably feed rds and extreme difficulty loading rds into the mag after the tenth or so rd (even with a maglula and Colt SMG loader). Some of my other mags functioned 100%, so I can't say absolutely that I wasn't pleased... YMMV. Also other makes of 9mm mags are cheap compared to metalform or colt branded mags. If I had to choose to go with a mag besides the metalform/colt I would go with CProducts as they stand behind their magazines and seemed decent.

I now solely use Colt preban 32rd and Metalform 20rd mags, all of which function flawlessly. Like I said, YMMV when it comes to 9mm magazines.

Don't waste your money at the above referenced companies. Buy them from CDNN at a deep discount compared to the above mentioned companies.

20rd Metalform mags $19.99

32rd Metalform mags $29.99

Direct from Metalform 32rd $49.25 and 20rd 46.50
Spikes Tactical branded Metalform mags 32rd $44.95
YHM branded metalform mags 32rd $48 and 20rd $41.50

What these guys all said. Metalform is absolutely the way to go.  There was some talk about the CDNN ones having finish problems, but I've got to be honest- the ones from Spike's weren't all that pretty either, and I'll probably end up Duracoating all of them.

Metalform mags used to be offered in a somewhat smooth park'd finish or a real smooth blued finish.  The stuff they've been shipping in the last year or so seems to all be a much rougher blasted and park'd finish.  Blued finish seems to have been discontinued...

I have a CMMG 9mm AR and it runns flawlessly on the Cproducts mags. They were on sale for 12.99 and I got a bunch of the 20's and 30's. I think they now have the contract to do mags under/for Colt. Not positive. A lot of people said to stay away from Cproducts, soI bought a couple of the Spikes branded Metalform mags to do a comparison. They are of identical quality IMHO. Never tried the polymer type.

I've done countless Uzi mag conversions and they were about the cheapest way to go before CProducts came out with their 9mm AR magazine

Honestly for the work you do on them and purchasing the carbide endmills that you;ll need it aint worth it in the long run

I said the same thing about the Cpro mags, and just get the metalform anymore.

I could not get Cproducts mags to run in My Han block . I switched to a Spikes block and have not had a stopage yet, Going on about 500 rounds or so since I made the switch.

The Pro mags are garbage.

While every 9mm owner waits for the day Magpul releases their 9mm PMAG, we make due with whats out there. I myself have had zero issues with CProducts magazines. And considering the price difference, I'd sure throw the dice out and give them a try. I also had no problems with RRA modified Uzi mags. As long as you can make the cut correct, that is the cheapest route. Never tried the Promag ones, heard too much bad press about them. Also never tried the Metalform ones, again...with no problems with mags that cost half as much, why pay more for the same function. Most of the mag issues seem to start with the choice of mag block used. Thats why I chose to go with a dedicated magwell for my SBR. Good luck, 9mm is a helluva lot of fun.
