I just got a  super nice pre ban Colt light weight Sporter today that came with 6 mags, 4 pre ban 30 round mags and 2 Colt pre ban 20 round mags.

The Colt 20 round mags both had a rivet in the bottom of them that i drilled out to remover the 5 round stop to make them back into 20 round mags.

Now the problem i am having is the spring does not seem strong enough to be able to feed all 20 rounds, even if i only load 16 to 18 rounds in the mag  the spring does not snap the next round in place when you remove the top round in the mag.

So do i need to replace the mag spring or what to make the mags work right or am i doing something wrong or missing something.

Replace the springs.

Before you replace the springs, take the mags apart and make sure the springs aren't attached to the follower backwards.

I'll bet you a nickel that they are

If you are finding that you have no spring pressure to feed those last two inserted rounds, chances are the follower is binding because the spring is installed incorrectly. Since the spring attaches to the follower near the center it's very easy to make this mistake.

Check it and report back. If that doesn't solve the issue, I'm fairly certain that I have a couple of Wolff Extra Power springs kicking around that I'll happily donate to get you up and running. Just shoot me an e-mail or IM if you need them. Good luck

ETA: And congratulations on the new pony!

Well i took both mags apart to see if the springs were in backwards and both were in the right way so it looks like both mags are going to need new springs.
