What is the overall best mag for the AR?

I prefer the MagPul Mags with or without Windows. I also have a few of those Metal Magazines but again I like the MagPul's the best.

IMHO.....USGI spec for SHTF.....slightly lighter than PMags and lower overall profile for ease of packing/storing in pouches.  Buy enough for your SHTF loadout and then a few more for spares.  I like my D&Hs

PMags for rangetime, plinking, matches etc.  They are very durable and can easily take a lot of abuse, dropping into the dirt, etc.

You must, and I mean must, as a proud ARCOMMER buy as many different mags as you can afford.  20s, 30s, 40s, Chicom 120 round drums, aluminum, stainless steel, polymer and then some.  Buy 'em cheap and stack 'em deep!

Always, always, always load and test fire all mags you will be staking your life on, before potentially staking your life on them.

BTW, Magpul followers are also a must if the mags don't already have them installed

YMMV

I just ordered some NHMTG mags. What follower do they use?

Triple K, followed by a close second of USA Magazines...I only slightly rate the Triple K's as better because they were smart enough not to spell out their mags as KKK mags....that would just not be PC

J/K....sorry I couldn't resist.....this thread is doomed to turn into a bitch fest!  My PERSONAL favorites are P-mags, Lancers and STD USGI, in all flavors.

Probably just the standard USGI green follower.  I wouldn't worry about it though, they will serve fine until you decide to swap in Magpul followers.

I have heard that H&K is the best, but my favorite affordable mags are the USGI w/ MagPul Gen III followers.

pmag (with or without the windows) with gen III followers...
only ran into 1 problem with my pmags. The newer pmags seem to have lost some weight (because of new design but also seem thiner).  I prefer the older style pmag with the newer followers.

"Best" is a matter of personal opinion.  As for me, I use Pmags, and I have all of mine loaded and ready to go.  But I also have some USGI mags around as well.  Oh, yeah, and a couple of Thermolds, too.

Whatever feeds your AR without malfunctioning. I have some P Mags and USGI and they both work fine. The P Mags seem more durable though. The most important thing is to test any you have to make sure they feed reliably. I have one USGI that jams up every five or six rounds for whaever reason. Ironically it's the only USGI I have with an anti tilt follower.

I wanted to hate Pmags but I can't. They are damn good mags.  I have not used or played with too many others, but the pmags are the best I have used.

I got my first pmags this past week. 3 20rd mags to start off with. I haven't had a chance to shoot with them yet, but they insert and drop free better than any mag I have. My other mags (mostly C Products and old USGI) have to really be slammed into the magwell if inserted on a closed bolt with it loaded to capacity. I was starting to wonder if my mag catch or lower was out of spec. These pmags only need a semi firm push to fully seat. I still think the other mags work fine, but Pmags will probably be my go-to mags now.
