I got one Lancer L5 30 Round mag to try out. My initial impression was that it was not as sturdy as a PMAG and reminded me, in a bad way, of the old Ramline AR15/Mini-14 combo mag.

I tried the mag for fit & drop free in several of the following brands of lowers; Colt, Eagle Arms, Olympic Arms, Doublestar, Saber Defense, Stag Arms and Mega Gator.  The magazine fit, locked the bolt back on and empty mag and dropped free from every single lower. No sanding of the mag body or working it in and out of the magwell to wear off the high spots needed.

I test fired the mag, loaded with 28 rounds, from 16" Carbines with M4 Feedramps and 14.5" Carbines without M4 Feedramps. (I've found that the 14.5" without feedramps is sometimes a magazine sensative combination.) I used M855, M193 and even Wolf 55Gn JHP.  I did not have one single failure to feed from any combination of ammo/brl/feedramps. The Lancer magazine worked in every combination.

The magazine still looks like new, inspite of being used as a monopod on grass and plastic shooting benches. I dropped it from the mag well onto on grass, dirt, gravel, sand, concrete, cement and carpet. No cracks have developed.

So far the Lancer mag has far exceeded my initial expectations.  If your rifle does not drop PMAGs reliably then the Lancer is definately worth a strong look.

If there were any complaint with the Lancer its that like the PMAG is does not fit perfect in a variety of magazine pouches designed for USGI mags. Though it fits better than a PMAG, it still catches on my tactical tailer mag pouches. Fortunately it seems to be more of an issue on inserting than removal.

That's exactly how they look to me too. I'm glad to hear that your experience indicates that looks might not be everything. Update us again after more use, if you think about it later. I'd love to hear a long term abuse report on them.

I test fired the mag, loaded with 28 rounds...

Have you tried it with 30 rounds?

I thought the Lancer was designed to be more accomodating of a 30-round load than USGI mags.

It was allowed to land in whatever manner it landed when dropped from the magwell. I didnt keep trtack of whether it hit base, feedlip, front or spine first.

Well, those two questions are good ones. Trying it with 30 rounds and the dropping it on the feed lips. I hope someone will come along who's willing to do those tests.

I got one to try out in the testing phases and did all the abusing I could and it did great! Dropped on concrete on it's feedlips loaded with 30 rounds many times, run over and grinded on concrete by an Explorer loaded and empty, placed in the frezer then abused and it did great. I now have 24 of them if that says anything

Wow! That's great!

These sound like they'll turn out to be much better than they would appear based on the visual similarity to the old Ramline mags.

Roger that.  I'm a 28-round guy too, but the bulk of my mags are USGI.

I have one lancer mag and the rest pmags, so far no problems with the lancers in my LWRC rifle, 100% reliable.

I load mine up to 30 and they function just fine.  Just tested the 20 rds Lancer, and they too work fine fully loaded to capacity.  I don't intentionally drop them on concrete but they do get dropped on dirt during reload practice.

I loaded 2 Lancer 20rd magazines to a full 20 rounds yesterday and easily inserted them on a closed bolt.  The spring doesn't look very compressed when fully loaded.  Both fed perfectly and held the bolt open after the last round in my Stag and LMT/Bush carbines.

I've NEVER encountered ANY issues with the Lancer magazines. I prefer them to anything out there. I have yet to try their 20Rd magazine, but I'm sure it's just as outstanding as their 30Rd.

FWIW.
