So I just got my first bushmaster last week and now want to start getting more mags.
Are there any to avoid? I know I have had rotten luck with promags for my pistols? What about for an AR? Are there any good recommendations for fair priced sellers? |
|
All of my mags are either D&H or Magpul. They all work so I can't tell you what to avoid. ETA: Magpul PMag D&H Take a look through Bravo Company's mag selection, there are a bunch of options. You can save some money on the D&H if you buy a 10 pack. |

Quoted from the AR15 Magazine FAQ tacked thread:
All of the G.I. contract 30s work fine, except for some black-follower lots of Cooper Industries and some black follower lots of Sanchez (DSI) production. These were recalled for destruction by the military, due to poor tolerances of the magazine body. To avoid the bad lots, NEVER buy any Coopers or Sanchez, unless they have the later style green followers and are in sealed original GI contract wrappers or have date-stamped bodies marked "02" (2002) or later. (Indicating later manufacture.) So in summary, here are the good ones: Adventureline Bushmaster (BFI) Center Industries Colt DPMS FN HK Okay Industries Parsons Simmonds (Universal) Sterling And here are the *potentially* bad ones: Cooper Industries DSI (Sanchez) And of course anything aftermarket (Usually made of blued steel––these are JUNK!) From my own experiences I don't really own bad mags but my cousin that sometimes goes shooting with me had problems with his aftermarket mags like USA and Promag brands. The good mags I use are: Magpul PMAG Lancer L5 Translucent Colt/ OKay/ NHMTG D&H Industries C Products Stainless |

Are there any good recommendations for fair priced sellers? Familiarize yourself with the dealers and industry partners that support this site. No, they're not all perfect, but there is an excellent chance that they're selling quality kit vs some random clown found on Google. AR15.com paid dealers and industry sponsors Vendors that I've personally bought from and recommend: Palmetto State Armory Black Bear Hardware Bravo Company USA 44mag.com Denny's Global Tactical |

Cope's has D&H mags with Magpul followers on sale for $9.99 each. If I was in the market for mags, I'd definitely be on top of some of these.
D&H Mags They also have CProducts teflon coated with milspec followers for $8.99 each. CP mags They have a set shipping of $7.95. They also have some Portugese .223 ammo in stock at $7.99/box. Same shipping applies for this particular ammo. AIM Surplus also has CProducts black teflon coated mags with anti tilt followers for $9.95. CP Mags They also have Centurion ammo in stock. $169.95 for 500 rounds. |

I haven't had the best luck with Cproducts There's no need to gamble on them. Some people have good luck with them, but I don't have the time to figure out if I bought acceptable mags when I can just buy known good mags in the first place. Agree also.I can never understand why people still buy C-Products mags when there are BETTER, HIGHER QUAILTY mags on the market.

And more importantly, did you adress the issues with Larry and give him the opportunity to correct it? This is always mentioned by folks who like Larry personally or just to stand behind him because he is a board sponsor. The clear history on this forum is many people (me included) had to send part of their order back to be replaced, then with the replacements perhaps another go-round of exchange. Sure they take care of it when contacted, But why bother in the first place? |

Sure they take care of it when contacted, But why bother in the first place? +1 I don't know Larry from Adam and have no allegiance to board sponsors or CP. I probably have 70-80 CP mags in 5.56, 6.8, 6.5, and .308. I have gotten maybe 10 mags total (6 of which were the LR-308s when they first came out) that had problems but CP replaces them NQA in just a couple of weeks and the rest I have had absolutely no problems out of them. They work just fine. I think it is the other way around, people who have a bone to pick with CP for what ever reason always come in to bash their stuff, just like mentioning HK products in any form always brings out the trolls. I remember when CP first came on the boards the people here acted like they were the greatest thing since sliced bread and were more than willing to drink the Kool-Aid. For some reason CP is not the flavor of the month any more (I think P-Mags are the current "can do no wrong" mag) and many want to trash them every chance they get, even though they still give excellent customer service when problems are brought to their attention. And I always seem to get screwed up products no matter who I order from. Murphy is my best friend. What matters to me is how the company handles problems, not that problems happen. I've bought more than my share of mags from the "good mag list" that had problems with them. New ones get sent back for replacement and the used ones get fixed if possible, or trashed. That's the gamble you take when buying used mags of any type. Getting new mags that are defective replaced is not a big deal IMO. |

And more importantly, did you adress the issues with Larry and give him the opportunity to correct it? Why should we have to when we can simply buy GOOD MAGS in the first place. Anyone here can wander over to the Cprod forum on this site and view all the threads dealing with replacement mags, when will they ship, etc. If we couldn't get USGI mags and our only choice was Cprod, I'd say yeah.... buy them and hope they work. But we CAN get good mags, so it's senseless to gamble on a manufacturer with a long history of production flaws and QC problems. |

Why should we have to when we can simply buy GOOD MAGS in the first place. While, in general, I do agree with this statement, I do have this to say. I own about 20 CP mags, all of which have no problems. I own 2 D&H Ind mags. One of which had an out of spec body. I attempted to contact D&H directly and got nothing. No response what so ever. Luckily one of the board sponsors here took care of me. So just because you bought "good mags" to begin with doesn't always mean you got good mags. 1 out of 2 D&H mags were bad, thats a 50% failure rate. While zero out 20 CP mags are bad. Thats 100% win ratio. I like to know I'm supporting a company that actually cares about having my business. |

Well I'm so glad you're 20 mags are working just fine. How about the others who aren't? Support is just fine, until you have to lay out some large coin to ship that bad around the country. Why hell, using UPS, from where I'm at, 35 miles from downtown Shitcago, it costs $8.98 to ship one pound, ground. Now what would several pounds be to Newington? $20-30-40 $$.

Why do you have to pay to send defective stuff back??? If I buy somthing that turns out to be defective I wouldn't expect to pay to send it back. If you have 18 defective mags and you bought less than say a million youv'e got big problems. |

If you have 18 defective mags and you bought less than say a million youv'e got big problems. I was responding to the gentleman paying high UPS rates to send stuff back. "18" was an example of the quantity that can fit in a USPS flat rate box, not an actual occurence. And while I try to buy quality over price, and in my 45 years on this earth I've never actually returned anythig to a manufacturer, my understanding is the vast majority require you to ship their defective crap back on your dime. That's just the way it is. Buy once, buy right. |
Many quality outfits will send you somthing extra to make up for their screw up. I bought a BAR from Ohio Ordnance and they sent it with a Garand sling. I called them up and they sent me a shipping label to send it back at their expense and they sent me the correct sling. If someone sells a defective magazine and you have to go through all the hassle and cost of sending it back.....not worth it. Funny thing is that many of the very manufacturers that always claim you need to buy their products or you may be killed or not survive seem to have the most stuff sent back to them

CMMG does it... Sent me a return label. I shouldn't have to pay extra, because someone else screwed up. That's false advertising. I end up paying more, to get something advertised at a specific price. |

PRO MAG ARE JUNK THEY GOT ME ONCE WANT DROP OUT OF MY BUSHMASTER WTF? Please translate to English please.Apparently the gentleman has fallen victim to the "drop-free" nonsense. OH! I have transitioned to stripping my mags from both my pistols and rifles. Now I do it automatically. I would not have a magazine that had to be pulled out hard, but a slight hesitation would not bother me at all. All of my well over 100 mags drop free, but you can't tell that by the way I do it now. |

Hate to admit it as well but this is a good point. |
