Current Magpul enhanced followers are called generation III.  I assume that there were also generations I and II.

Is there much difference in performance when the different generations are installed in USGI magazines?

Can one tell the generation of a follower by looking at it or measuring it?

Thanks.

There are visual differences... just Google "MagPul follower"... You will see a photo comparing the three types.

I have never found a follower that doesn't work... So, you'll have to ask someone who has bad luck with follower about the performance differences.

Found the illustration.  Thanks.

Has anyone had problems with generation I or II?

Why did they get rid of their logo on generation III, I wonder?
I have experiences no problems, seen no problems, and heard of no problems on any MagPul follower, regardless of the generation.

I will go farther than that. I have never had problems with black or green USGI followers.
I upgraded my old mags with black followers to green years ago. Now I'm in thje process of slowly getting rid of the green followers for MagPul followers.
I like Kool Aid.

I second that... All my black followers work 100%.

Your sample size is too small to see an effect. On the Marine KD course with everyone shooting the same rifle and ammo, magazine related weapons malfunctions were cut by a good 40% during the switch over from black to green. This switch only added a forward leg to existing follower design but it helped a lot which is why the Military did a service wide upgrade of the follower.

I coach Marine Corps rifle ranges and we still get lots of the older mags with black followers.

I've seen many malfunctions happen when using the older style black follower.  Very few malf. using the green style and none using the Magpul.  But then again I'm the only one that regularly uses the magpul style followers in my USGI mags on the range.  I've seen a few grunts here and there that had them but pretty much no one else.

So my conclusion on the Magpul followers is based mostly on my own use of them.
