How long can 30rd. mags such as OKay, CP, and others stay loaded before they need to be swapped out? I left some Lancer L5 mags loaded for 4 months, cycled them and they worked just fine. Loaded them back up and will wait another 4 months and repeat. I like to do my own testing lol. Ohh, and I loaded them with 25 rounds. That is my typical home defense load out. I would like to know of any other testing that has been done on other mags as well. |

For the most part, work is what wears springs out. Leaving them compressed is not "work."
In my own experience with USGI M16 mags, I've had beat up range mags loaded for over two years that ran fine when I got around to using them. With USGI 1911 mags I've used mags that were loaded for 40 years with no problem |

My understanding is that it is not whether you keep them loaded or not that wears out the spring, but constantly loading, firing, then reloading. (working the spring up and down constantly).
