Are they any good?
Just as reliable as GI mags?

Mine have been flawless to date.  I bought one to try it out and then bought a few more.  I'm definitely in the minority here, but I like them better than my P-mags.

According to their insert they can self destruct if exposed to DEET.  This is a non starter for me.

Do your mags normally come in contact with insect repellant?

I haven't had any problems with them feeding yet, even with the one I beat up pretty good (Anchor Armament now has that mag and it is still up and running).

I also never heard of any reported problems of Lancers not dropping freely on any lower receiver.  An anti-tilt follower would be nice to have inside one but it is not necessary.

I have only one,  never had a single problem yet.

They are great mags. Take a moment to do a search and see what others think. They also have their own forum in the industry section.

That does sound scary.... I was not aware of that.

I wonder if PMags have any trouble with DEET?

DEET will breakdown a lot of different materials...  not just plastic. The excerpt below was taken from a US Dept. of Ag study.

"DEET will damage plastic materials, so do not apply DEET formulations on or near plastics, acetate, rayon, Spandex, synthetic fabrics (other than nylon), furniture finishes, leather, watch crystals, and painted or varnished surfaces. Plastic glass frames and goggles should be protected from DEET applications. Car finishes and interiors also may be damaged by DEET."

I love my Lancers and plan to buy a few more in the near future (while I still can).

the biggest problem with lancers so far, as well as i can tell, is that the 20 rounders are not out yet!!!!! yes,,, they are very good mags, no problems anybody has brought forth on any forum to date, just excellent operation. ––––-still waiting on the 20's,,,this will be my "go to" mag.

According to the label on the packaging, the mags will only be damaged if you spray DEET directly on them.  Putting DEET on you or your clothing, then touching the mag will not hurt it.  They also say that if you spray DEET on it and wipe it off in a timely manner it will just discolor it, IIRC.

Love my Lancer mags, looking to get some more. I like the thin material and rubber pad on them. They fit in my carriers unlike PMAGs.  They do their part with my AXR too.

My Lancer mags are as reliable and better with damage resistance than my GI mags.

It could load and fire 30 rounds like the GI mags but I prefer only loading it with 28 rounds like on my GI mags for easier loading under stress on a closed bolt.

They work great on my Colts, LMT, and Steyr AUG with factory NATO M16 mag conversion stock, which is the same stock TPD USA AXR rifles are using.

You need L5's with the black follower. Read a discussion HERE about issues with Bushmasters.

I love my Lancer mags.  I left a L5 mag loaded for 4 months, and it dumped out with no problems what so ever.  Not sure if you can do that with a P-mag, minus the dust cover or not, would be interesting to know.  But I have sold them for some time now, and people have nothing but good feedback about them.

DEET will do no harm to a PMAG.  We've IMMERSED them in various grades up to 95% for 36 hours will no ill effects.  Also, we've had some fully loaded PMAGs sitting around for a couple years with no Impact Cover on and have observed no feedlip creep.
Regardless, the Lancer mags seem to be pretty good units and I would consider them superior to USGI.

Justin,

Does DEET affect the Tmag? I'm wondering if the DEET issue is translucent polymer specific.

The TMAG is still in development and yes, translucent polymers can be more DEET sensitive...

Looks like a great mag. Does anyone know when the Lancer 20rd mags come out?

The l5-20 should be out in the end of April or early May.

My local rifle range is out in the woods. One of the first things I do after getting out of the car is slather myself with DEET.

If I didn't, the mosquitos would eat me alive

To the OP-thank you for starting this thread. I knew DEET stains the hell out of certain plastics, but I had no idea it could actually cause harm.

My L5 w/ green one works fine for my BM. I tested and it work. I am not sure why it would not work on yours.  Maybe I am just lucky?

My L5s/green work in my Bushy too.

I've not found any plastic that DEET doesn't disolve.  All my fishing poles have cloudy fingerprints from having 100% DEET left on my fingers.  Once it dries a little or you rinse off your hands, it is not a problem.  I don't think that this sort of exposure to small amounts would do any structural damage but they might stick to your fingers a little bit if your fingers are wet with DEET and leave a surface mar.

Attach a Thermacell to your belt to keep the 'skeeters and flies away, and pre-spray your boots and clothes with Permanone.  That should keep your L5s in good shape.

I just picked up 2 of the new black follower Lancers at the gun show in Berea, Ohio for $19.95 each. They seem like pretty decent units. My only issue is that they insert hard when full. This is in my RRA Entry tactical. It doesn't have any issues with any mag I have tried so far.

When I insert my fully loaded Pmag I can use the push/pull method easily. With 30 rounds in the lancer I have to wack the shit out of it to get it to seat. Dropping down to 29 rounds allows me to use the push/pull with a little effort.

I will just download to 29 from now on.

Anyone else had this issue? They aren't making me regret my 60+ Pmags, but if they work tomorrow, I would recommend them to others for the price I paid with the caveat about downloading them 1 round. I have no doubt they are superior to regular aluminum for damage resistance.

They are design that way.....a little tough to insert.  With some Pmags, you can load 31rds.  Both are GTG in my book.

I got rid of my Pmags because they wouldn't drop-free from my (LMT-made) lower. I've had no such problems with the Lancers I have.

Personally, I highly doubt any of my mags will come in contact with DEET, and so if that's the worst that anyone can come up with, I can live with that.

The lancers ran flawlessly today. I only ran one full mag a piece. They worked in my Entry tactical and in my friends Blackthorne kit AR. Don't know if I will buy any more, but not a bad start.

Zombies will spray your 'hood with deet before attacking;  You will be lulled by the lack of mosquitoes;  Zombies will ravage your family as mags melt.
