hey guys,

I'm gonna be picking up some magazine rehab kits for my .223 30rd. USGI mags, and found that I can get chrome silicone springs, or stainless steel springs...

so, which is the best option when considering expected lifespan and proper mag operation?

Stainless.... I bought a magazine that came with CS, and I am looking for a replacement.

CS will rust easier.... I don't want rusty springs.

ok, now I'm feeling really dumb...last nite I found a site that had CS and SS mag rehab springs, but now I cant remember what site it was...

can any of you guys help me remember? IIRC, the site had kits w/floor plates, springs, and anti-tilt followers, and I think they were sold in packs that would rehab 3 mags...

From the Brownell's test results:

http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/GunTech/NewsletterArchive.aspx?p=0&t=1&i=603

Initial set for CS springs: .039"
Initial set for 17-7 stainless spring: .124"

While not a conclusive test, it does reflect that stainless springs definitely won't last as long as CS.  I don't think that a bit of surface rust on a CS spring will affect the function of the spring.

I'll stick with CS springs.

Brownell's is the place I found the 3-mag rehab kits, now that I've seen the page again, but they're cheaper @ the C-Products page, so I'll be going that direction.

re: CS vs. SS - I see where the CS springs could be expected to have a longer service life than the SS springs. I figure I can just hit the CS springs w/CLP or Militec-1 to stave off surface rust.

thx guys
