I purchased two 30 round PMAGS a few months ago and they work flawlessly in my AR.  I just bought one 20 round and four 30 round PMAGS from AIM Surplus about a week ago.  The bolt won't lock back on the 20 round mag after the last shot.  The bolt will lock when I rack the charging handle back with the mag empty though.  Other than that, it works well.  Feeds/fires all 20 rounds like a champ and drops free from the mag well.  Just won't lock back after last round.

At first I thought my rifle was short stroking but everything works fine with my two original 30 round PMAGS.  I haven't had a chance to test out my new 30 rounders yet.

Anyone got an answer?

ETA-The two 30 round mags that work w/o a problem were manufactured 3/08.
All mags recently purchased were manufactured 5/08

Had the same problem. Ran fine otherwise.

Had a curved  20 with a CS spring that would not feed 100% in 7 weapons & 5 ammos, took the spring and follower, saved them and made a target out of the mag.

Got a 20 Pmag would not reliably lock back bolt on the same weapons so I clipped 1 coil off the spring put it in the 20 Pmag. It is now perfect and when I buy more I will dump the spring for CS right out of the box.

I use the same spring (CProducts) in my straight 20s with alloy followers when they got old and too weak to push up the bolt release fast enough and did the same thing, I clipped 1.5 coils all flawless.( Colt and Adventureline)

So, the follower isn't hitting the bolt release fast enough?

I would wait for generation 2 PMAG 20 rounders and give them a try..

Alot of members had quirks with 1st generation PMAG 30 rounders. Most of the quirks were worked out in the 2nd generation 30 round PMAG's

Fast enough might not be the best to describe it, the spring is not strong enough to get the follower and bolt release up to stop the bolt before it returns to closed position.  Same end result.

Yeah, too late for that...Tried the problem mag in a buddy's RRA.  Exact same thing happens in his gun.  I definitely won't buy any more PMAG 20's until 2nd gen come out.  Love the 30's though.

I bought two 20 round mags and used them for the first time yesterday. I had read on another thread about cleaning off the manufacturing flashings off the follower so I did that.

One magazine functioned flawless all day with full loads, the other did not.

The one that failed, on the second round it did not chamber properly and destroyed the round. I removed the mag and the destroyed round, then reinserted the magazine. I then hit the bolt release and the bolt went forward but did not chamber a round. I pulled the bolt back and removed the mag only to see that the top round in the mag had a nice scrape on it like the bolt just scraped it as it was closing.

I threw the magazine down in my bag and did not try it again. I tried to sell it at the range but no takers.

I also have one 30 rounder but have not tried it yet.
