Aright I give up.  What's the secret to installing the green followers?   I don't know if there are different styles of these followers but just FYI the ones I'm working with have a long post in the center for the spring and a long "guide' on one side.  Greatly appreciate any help. I'm glad I'm not doing this for a living......I'd starve and couldn't buy anothe AR.  h.gifh.gifh.gifh.gifh.gif       TIA

First make sure that it's oriented correctly.
Then insert it at an angle so that the long side clears the tabs that retain the floor plate.  Wiggle and jiggle it a little while pushing it in and it should go in if your mag body ain't damaged.
And if it still won't go in, just before you're ready to toss everything in the trash, order Magpul followers.  Good luck.

The above description may be too brief.  the trick is getting the front end started.  don't bring it staight in like you would a magpul.  Tilt it (side to side, and tilt the front up) then start it into the mag at the middle of the mag. Then still tilted, move it forward to it's place, then level the follower and it should go in.  You do not have to force it if you are doing it right!

Thanks CCKW.  I've tried just about every angle, twist and jiggle and I still haven't got the green *&"%$#@&^%er in yet.  I have alloy followers for all six mags I'm working on now but I have some others that I may need new followers for.  My dog is pacing up and down now.......he knows it's bed time and won't rest til I'm in there.  Night all.

Did you get this?  It's hard to choose the right words to describe. Maybe I can do some photos if you need.  IM me if so.

But the trick is getting the one end of the follewer started.  It is the end without the anti-tilt extension. you have to get it into the mag body then get it forward past that narrow area. Tip & tilt and try, try, try again.  Think of it like a puzzle/brain teaser.  Give it to someone else, tell them it's a puzzle and bet them a buck the can't do it.

The 20 round mags with alloy followers are just about the most reliable ever produced.  Leave them stock, you are not going to improve them.

I thought the green followers were ONLY for 30 rounders. Never heard of a after market follower for straight 20 round mags.

There are green followers that are made for 20 round mags.  I have  a few that I removed from some of those 20 round mags from USA or wherever that I never could get to work properly with more than 15 rounds in them.  I subjected them to several mods before I gave up and scrapped them for their innards.  Even the metal alloy followers were no help to those mags.

I looked at some new in the wrapper USA mags. yesterday and they looked poorly made and the floorplate wasn't marked.  I have access to several 20rd. mags. from D&H, Simmonds, Center, Colt and Adventure.  They all have alloy followers and are made from one piece of metal where some of the newer mags are made from two pieces.  The guy wants $12 each and won't come down.  I bought 7 took them apart and stripped all the old finish off right down to the anodized surface using laquer thinner.  Today I'll put them back together with stainless springs.  They all look as if they were made with more attention to detail than some new mags.  I know I can buy cheaper mags but they look and feel cheaper.
