Will the Magpul Gen II Self Leveling Follower install and work with Bushmaster magazines?

Thanks very much

the magpull follower will not work in straight 20-round magazines, or during-ban mags that you can't disassemble.
any other USGI spec magazine should work

New Bushmaster magazines are now using the Magpul follower.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that some of the magazines themselves may not be any good.

I recently have had problems (failures to feed w/cartridges jammed into the barrel extension and also bolt over jams) with the 20 round curved Bushmaster magazines.  They came equipped with the Magpul followers.  Bushmaster is asking an exorbitant $24.99 a pop for these turkeys.

Upon close examination, I traced the problem to the magazines sitting too low in the mag well; an incorrectable problem in the mag body itself.

.44 Mag.com is selling older production 20 round "Restricted for Military and LEO Use Only" (THESE are right on) magazines on closeout for $10.99 ea.  They aslo have 20 round stainless steel straight mags (CProducts) made on new tooling for around $15.00 ea.  Either of these is the way to go IMO.

Hi Larry,

I'm sure I'm right about this.
The carbine in question has been absolutely flawless for over 1,500 rounds until I hit several new Bushmaster 20 rnd. magazines. Then immediate problems with cartridges slamming into the barrel extension and bolt over jams.
I then tried five "new" old production D&H 20 rnd mags and the rifle resumed operation like a Swiss watch.

I went over the mags with a caliper (every dimension I could think of) and couldn't find any anomolies between the "bad" mags and the "good" mags.

So, I then started inspecting the mags by actually inserting them into the rifle and closely examining the "gap" or distance between the top of the front of the magazine and the bottom of the feed ramps in the barrel extension. The "good" mags seat with the top of the front of the mag almost touching the bottom of the feed ramps. The "bad" mags seat approx. 1/32" to 3/64" away from the bottom of the feed ramps. This distance can increase a little bit more if I put pressure on the front of the magazine (that is, shift the mag within the magwell in the same manner the mag will shift when the bolt puts pressure against it from the rear when feeding a round out of the mag lips).

There's no doubt in my mind the new Bushmaster mags sit lower in the magwell than they should.

Sorry I missed your post. Please do me a favor and send those magazines back to me. I would like to do a dimensional check. I will replace them at no charge. Thanks

Larry

I dont think its the mag catch cut out.

Load your bad mags and some known good mags. Look at the front of both mags and note how high the bullets are sitting above the front edge of the mag body. I think you will see your bad mags have less clearance than your good mags.
