Why do all ar15/m16 mag have the little tabs to hold bottom of mag on, you got be careful as hell to not break the damn things off when servicing mag

Why aren't mags made with a a full length flange across the bottom?

Imagine trying to install the follower if there was a full flange on the bottom instead of the tabs.

And imagine trying to get the baseplate on and off with full length rails that are as tight as the tabs on Center Industries mags.

I was thinking the followers could have a recess molded to accomodate the different tabs. As it is the followers only use the bearing surface at the corners to maintain the correct position. I am just thinking someone could come up with a better design in this area of the mag.

After Umpteen Millions of these sold over the last Gazillion years, I don't think there will be any re-designs coming soon.
