Just came back from the range. A guy I was with was having all sorts of problems with some plastic mag he had (don't recall manufacturer right off). The round wouldn't feed all the way before the bolt closed, and the bullet was getting driven back halfway into the case. He got out what he called his "cheap metal US military clip" (yes, he said clip), and it functioned perfectly. I took a look at the plastic mag and the spring seemed really weak to me. I told him that he shouldn't use the magazine until he replace the spring, or better yet purchased a different magazine. I am only a hobbyist shooter, and I am not very knowledgeable on things like this, especially seeing as my only (and first) AR is still not complete. Do you think I gave good advise? I will see if he knows what brand of mag it is next time I see him.
