Is there a way to tell if a mag is preban via the Mfg. Code on the floorplate?

I doubt it as the floor plates can be changed very easily. They are usually dated on the body if they are post 1994 (if my memory serves correctly).

I believe so.  I don't remember seeing any fresh cooper pooper mags after the ban started.

Last question first:  Coopers were made in '81 and '83.  Cooper lost their contract due to quality problems.  Many had bad welds, only 3 per seam.  If yours have only 3 spot welds per seam, discard.  If yours have 6 or 9 spot welds per seam, discard the spring and follower and replace with new spring and green follower, and test them.

Coopers were dumped on the civilian market in the mid to late '80's.

Telling the age from the "manufacturer's code" (actually this is the CAGE Code):

Only an appx range.  Only postban mags were required by law to have "LEO/MIL" markings, and then some were not so marked, as they were made for DOD, not for public consumption.

Though others put dates of mfg and "LEO/MIL Use Only" in the post '94 ban years, Center put on the date, but not the "LEO/MIL Use Only" markings until late.  Check the date code on Center mags.  They will be marked with month/year, such as 10/99.

Forget the floorplates.  I have seen floorplates that were blank.  Or they may have been taken from other mags, switched around when cleaning and reassembling.

The CAGE Code is stamped on the mag body.  If the only contract for a particular CAGE Code was after the ban years, such as General Stamping, then all of those are obviously post ban.

If there is no date, and the CAGE Code can be found in the preban years, then there is no proving it is a post ban mag.

CAGE Code   -   Mfg   -   Contract Date Year(s)

30389 - COOPER INDUSTRIES  '81, '83

31907 - PARSONS PRECISION  '82, '84

B0897 - FN HERSTAL '82

9T430 - DSL DIV OF SANCHEZ '85

33710 - OKAY INDUSTRIES INC  '86, '90, '98

Note:  OKay, Colt, NHMTG, all share the 33710 code as all are OKay.

90435 - QUEST TECHNOLOGIES   '86

6P199 - CENTER INDUSTRIES    '90, '97

13629 - COLTS MFG CO INC    '93

1D8Y5 - GENERAL STAMPING   '99

Labelle became General Stamping, which is now D&H.  I can't find a CAGE Code for Labelle.

Labelle also made Bushmaster and DPMS mags, as well as many mags with blank floorplates.

Quest is the parent of LaBelle, isn't it?

Didn't O'Kay have an older CAGE code assigned? 2A030?

Aren't all numeric CAGE codes the older ones? I think the alphanumerics are newer.

CAGE 2A030 shows a zip code of 06050...OKay is at 06051...dunno...

Regarding Quest and Labelle, I don't know.

I have never seen the 2A030 CAGE Code.
