| Is there a big difference between the white lithium grease and the regular black lithium grease? I know that I have purchased some magazines that came with the white lithium greaser applied to the springs. I have a bunch of different magazines that I wanted to put the grease on, just for measure I suppose, but I have a ton of black lithium and no white lithium grease. I didn't know if there was a big difference. Is it ok to use? |

I don't know the differences between the two greases, but I wouldn't put either one in my mags. With grease in them they will attract dirt & sand or anything else that gets inside your mags, possibly starting corrosion or leading to a malfunction. If you want to put something on your springs, put a very light coat of CLP on them. |

+1 I have used a dry film lube for about 10 years on my weapon that is spray painted on. Sandstrom 27a. Same coating as magazines. Wet lubrication ( oil ) will collect the carbon and spent and unspent powder and make a good jamming sludge that will impact the reliability of your weapon Dry film lube is the best kept secret since sliced bread. I can shoot and shoot and shoot without malfunction. To clean my weapon i take a nylon brush and brush the bolt etc.. of any debris.. simple as that. Witrh good clean and functioning magazines and a good clean dry lubed weapon.. I have had excellent reliability in my weapons |
Handgun mags - I have seen this. For AR15 mags - dont grease them. The rifle mag extends outside of the weapon, and is not covered and protected like a pistol mag is. As noted - grease will cause the springs to collect dist and debris - this will also stick to the inside body of the mag. This will likely lead to premature failure of the mag due to frinction of the follower to body bearing surfaces. Many new AR mags use stainless steel springs and the point is mute. If you dont have stainless, use a ight coat of CLP, or dry moly lube if you feel they must be protected. Personally, I dont do anything to them. If you are referring to pistol mags.... honestly - I treat them the same way... if I ever take them apart - they get cleaned/wiped with a light coat of CLP and thats it. |
