I have fifteen magazines.  The other day I found some grey dry finish Colt magazines for sale and bought some more.  They were a rip-off (30 bucks each), but I wanted some actual Colt 30 rounders just for the hell of it.  Well I have tested two of them so far at the range, one worked great.  One did not.  The rear of the follower gets hung up when it is almost all the way up.  Every last round feeds, but the follower will not come up that last half an inch by itself so the bolt does not lock to the rear after you fire you last round.  WTF?????  Should I just take a file to the magazine or what?  Any suggestions?  Should I just scrap it?

Any one have this happen to them?  Maybe I will play with different followers and see if it is the follower or the magazine.  Damn 30 dollar magazine and it doesn't work!!!

First, I'd take manually cycle the follower down/up with a piece of wood-  dowel, etc to be sure it's broke in well. I'd also check function of the rifles's bolt stop & be sure it is lubricated.
If the mag continues to misbehave, I'd contact the seller & seek a free replacement or refund.

Yeah maybe I will do that.

No I know that it is the mag because my AR functions fine with my other mags.  They have one mag left in there, maybe they will trade it.  Then they will just probably sell the bad one to some other poor bastard.

I meant that sarcasticly, as in I don't know if I can trade it in in good conscience knowing that someone else will buy it and not know any better, maybe not even find out that they have a bad magazine until THEY NEED IT.  Maybe i ought to just hang on to it and take it apart so I don't get it confused with good mags.

That and maybe trying to replace the follower.  Were these new or used?  Maybe a weak spring if the mag was 're-furbished' will Perma Slik but the mag spring wasn't changed out.  If you got this at a gun store and you still can't get the mag to work then you should get another mag from them.

It is a new mag.  It isn't the spring, its just that the rear of the follower gets hung up on the mag body once it is almost all the way up, and it tilts and the very top.  you can force it straight but it won't do it on its own.  Like I said, it will feed every round, but the follower will be slightly tilted once it is that high up and the rear of the follower will not perform its function and lock the bolt to the rear.

If it is a new mag, take it apart and see if there is a burr that his f'ing it up.

If it is dirty, give it a good cleaning.

and you might want to try one on the magpul followers in it.

Like badredfish said, check for a burr.  I like to use a wooden paint stirring stick to run the follower/spring up and down.  If that doesn't fix it then try a different follower.
