I just came across a bunch of 5.56mm stripper clips. I figured they'd be good for loading mags at the range, but when I sat down to load the clips up, it was a bitch to get the rounds to slide on and an even bigger pain to get them to slide off the clip into the mag. It's been a while since I've had to load mags this way and I don't recall it being that difficult. Am I missing the big picture here?

As long as you're using the USGI mag loader or a commercial version, ammo should be pretty easy to push down into the mag.

the problem seems to be in the clip itself, the rounds are hard to put on it and charge into the mag.

The rounds should slide fairly easily unless you have some damaged strippers or possibly some foreign material/corrosion in the grooves.  You might try a little light oil (not WD40) in the groove asnd wipe dry and try again. If that doesn't work, I would just go buy some new ones......they're fairly cheap and usually work well.  I use them at the range and keep some loaded in my stash.  I hope this helps.
