I recently purchased some newer Center mags dated 1-03 that I am having issues with.  These mags are very snug when inserting & removing them from my Bushmaster lower, but they are extremely snug on my Mega lower.  However; The same Centers mags drop free and work great in my Ameetec lower.

I have Colt, Okay, Sanchez, and pre ban Centers dated 92 that all work great in all three of my lowers.

What gives?  Has any one else had these issues with any of the newer Center Leo stamped Center mags dated 1-03?

I bought some NIW Centers dated 6-03 that had this same problem.
Of the 10 that I bought, 6 dropped free from the 2 RRA lowers that I tested them in.
4 of them were a little snug in one lower and had to be pulled from the other lower. All of my older mags dropped free from both lowers, so I did some measuring on the new mags and found that the front to back dimensions were a little larger than the old mags.

If you seperate your lower from your upper and insert the mags and hold it up to the light you can get an idea where they are hitting in the mag well. Trying to read just the rub marks on the mag doesn't give a clear picture to where they are hanging up in the well.

If I would have tried to squeeze them front to back, they would have bulged too much and would have rubbed on the sides. So I just took a file and removed some of the metal on the back rib. This removed all of the dry lube on them and a bit of aluminum, but now they all drop free. I'll touch them up when I get my dry lube spray from Graingers this week and you won't even be able to tell they were worked on.

I'll bet you have the same issue as I do.

Mine were a little snug also, strangely enough, after a range trip they all fall out freely now.

maybe the heat, oil, vibration loosened them up.  no issues now

I just bought 2 LEO-marked new Centers from a show last weekend, having bought two non-marked ones ata past show. Both new ones were snug and wouldn't drop freely. I squeezed them a bit using the c-clamp method (acually an aluminum bar clamp that has a wider footprint), and they both work great now.

I have 10 Centers I bought NIW that were manufactured last year, and all fit perfectly and drop free in my Bushmaster.

Just out of curiosity, anyone recently but LEO/Gvt marked Centers NIW with blank floorplates? Does this indicate something? Both of the ones I picked up last weekend have these blank floorplates.

My 10 are like this as well, blank black floorplates and LEO markings.

Thezman,

I did  seperate my uppers from the lowers held them up to the light, and I can clearly see where the rear ribs are rubbing on the magwell.  I don't think I will need to remove too much material to get these to work right.

What brand of dry lube from Graingers did you purchase to refinish them?

When I said these were extreemely snug I mean I had to use some force to insert or remove them from the well.

Thanks I appreciate your help.

BTW these mags all have Centers stamped floorplates.

Tracker,

Here's the stuff I should be getting by the end of the week. I don't have an account at Grainger, but my buddy does, so I had him order me some.
Tried to link you directly to Grainger, but they must block it somehow, so here's a link to Loctite.

LOCKTITE MOLY DRY FILM LUBRICANT

Graingers product # is 5E202

Watch carefully as you work the back of the mag, as not to compromise the spot weld. You shouldn't have to remove that much metal to get them to work.

There is a Grainger just a few miles away from where I work.   I guess I will have something to do this weekend.

Mucho gracias

Exact same issue iwth LEO mags dated between 2000 and 2003 - got 16 of them and 6 don't quite drop free.  Man I am glad I saw this thread, I thought I was losing my mind!

just try shooting with them.
they may just need to be used a little.
2 out of 3 of mine would not drop free and after the range trip (500 rds) they dropped free and clear.

shoot 'em up before squeezing anything. if they still don't drop free then try squeezing them

Um, someone did that for me, most likely a LEO or Mil guy...a LOT!

If I give em a shake they'll dro ploose, maybe I'll just clean them real good  with some CLP and TLC and see if that fixes the issue.  Otherwise I'll just bust out the paracord and make "ranger loops"  for them.
