I was shooting my AR today and had a problem with my mag.  After I was done with 30 rounds the bolt closed and crushed my follower.  The follower is in 6 or so pieces and the spring managed to ride over the bolt and stopped it midway.  The spring is slightly bent but looks serviceable, should I replace the spring and follower?  What would cause a failure like this?  What kind of follower/spring should I get?

Huh???

How did the bolt hit the follower?

How are you going to NOT replace the follower if its in 6 pieces?

Who made this magazine?

I'm definately going to replace the follower.  I asked if I should replace both the spring and follower.  Somehow the follower got out of the mag body and got shattered (I don't how dut it did).  I believe the bolt hit the follower which explains the lack of holding open and a shattered follower.  Part of the follower was above the bolt and other pieces were inside the mag.  I just want to know what kind or brand of follower is recommended.  The mag was purchased at a gun show and only had a "england" sticker on it.  The mag plate has no marking of any kind and it has a grey finish and is aluminum.  The follower was black plastic.

England SA80 mag yuck. Buy some USGI mags you will never have a problem. you can try just replacing the follower first with any black or the new Anti tilt green. If it does not work just go buy a new  USGI $15.00 mag

Wow... First I have heard of this.  To answer your question, yes, replace the spring too.  They are cheap enough.

I searched around for magpuls and found that botach has them cheapest at $5.95 plus $1 shipping.  Has anyone ever dealt with botach and was it a good/bad experience?  Anybody know of a good source of single mag springs?  Here is the link to botach: store.botachtactical.com/maenselefo3.html

When I replaced the followers in the grey England mags I bought I noticed one of the original followers had cracked almost into near the front of the rasied portion from the spring pushing on it over time. When I broke it the rest of the way into the plastic was dry looking. The mags were new I had never used them either.

I asked the same question about botach and received a lot of responses saying not to use botach.

Why don't you look in the EE, there are 5 or so sight supporters that carry the magpul followers.

Guys there is more than one type of SA80 mag.

I use an RG black aluminium teflon coated.
