If you don't have any normal capacity mags now, spend your money wisely. Buy only USGI 30's or SA80 (British steel version of USGI 30's) mags. The SA80 mags from www.CMMGinc.com are excellent. They come with green followers and better springs tossed in the box loose. Discard the original spring and follower and use the better ones they give you. I have 14 of these, and they all function perfectly. I have USGI mags from Labelle, DPMS (made by Labelle), Bushmaster or BFI (made by Labelle), some blank floorplate teflon coated mags (made by Labelle), D.L.Sanchez, OKay, Parsons, Adventure Line, Center, and probably a few others in there. They all work fine. The only USGI mags to avoid are Cooper Ind. You will see some highly priced "genuine Colt" USGI's. Don't waste the money, they are made by the same US govt contractors as the above mags. They are not worth the extra expense just because they say Colt on the bottom. Some swear by green followers, I am not one. I have not had any problem with black followers. Perhaps the green follower improve performance with marginal springs or in full auto usage, but my experience is that with good springs, they all run fine. Go on and change the followers if you get USGI's with black followers, it can't hurt. Troy has an excellent Mag FAQ here, read it. There are no other mags you should spend money on (other than USGI's and SA80's) until you have at least 10 or so of the above mags per AR. Invest in these good mags first. Everything else is way less desirable. |

Try this test. Put a few rounds in the mag and cycle through the rifle... does the bolt lock back on the last round? Do they cycle smoothly? At the range, load them with 5 rounds only. Shoot. No problems? Repeat several times. If no problems, the springs are good to go. You have Labelle, Okay, and Center... all good mags. |
