Any suggestions on how to block a straight 20 round mag to only hold 5 rounds.

The best way to reduce you magazine, would be to get one of the spring steel blocks that Colt used to in their 5 round hunting mags. I would send you one but I've just got rid of my last one.  Put an add on the EE for "WTB: Colt 20 Round Magazine Block" and see if someone will sell out [red]give[/red] you one for $5 or less.

Other than that, anything you can think of should work to stop the travel of the floor plate @ 5 rounds, wood, plastic etc. However the Colt Factory 20's that were blocked to 5 had the floorplate riveted to the steel floor plate retaining tab. This was to make it harder to slip the block in if you were doing something you'r not supposed to while hunting... AFAIK, to be legal for hunting it's going to have to be a permanent or semi-permanent alteration. So with that mind MHO, is that it would be best to just buy a 5 round mag from Bushmaster etc.

If I rember correctly, I think someone actually makes a follower that will block a magazine to only 5 or 10 rounds. You may check google and find it there.
