I've been reading through the threads here and in the exchange... I keep seeing percentages come up when talking about mag's... 5% 75% How exactly are they rated, is this all inclusive rating for apperance and function? Just function? Is there a standard or does it vary person to person? I guess I'm trying to figure out what the percentages mean, and how to interprate them.. Anbody able to help me with that? |

Function? Ummm, think about it...If it were based on function, you wouldn't get many buyers paying $15 for 0% mags when they could get 75% or better mags for $16. Rating is based solely on appearance. It is based on what the seller estimates is the amount of finish remaining on the mag body. |

Since no one can SEE function, and since it's clear that more people are worried about appearance than function (it's true), the ratings given are simply an estimate of the remaining moly dry-film finish remaining. It's assumed (sometimes incorrectly) that any other problems are specifically spelled out (dents, scratches, broken floorplate tabs, etc.). Many great looking mags don't function well, and many ratty-looking mags (including many of mine) work great. But folks obsess about things like tiny scratches or wear marks, so there will always be people who buy based on appearance. -Troy |
