I placed ads here on AR15.com and at glocktalk.com looking for factory Bushmaster mags. I got quite a few, but the latest ones (2) that I got today look "messed up". I took a pic of one of the ones I got today next to one that I already had...

It looks like it's been sliced and spliced back together. Both are like this. I emailed the seller and he said that they came from the factory like this. Does anyone know if that's true? All I know is that they don't look like any of the BM mags that I have and I want my money back if they *aren't* original factory unaltered mags.

Check the dates on the "sliced" ones. IIRC those were made to get mags out after the ban, but before the current 10 rounders were approved. Take two mags, cut them down, rivet them and "poof" you have a 10 round mag.
I have read that several rifle makers did that.

The date on the sliced ones are 2/00...well after the ban.

Looks like the ones I got w/ my Bushmaster and I'd say they are definately factory Bushmaster "politically correct" mags.

FWIW, the ones I got had function problems and were discarded.

They are factory Bushmaster mags - they were put into circulation after the ban but before they came out with the new design on the right.  Bushmaster replaced my Frankenmag with their new one for free.

Left one is the First Bushmaster 10 round magazine design.  They are DCM legal.  The one on the right is the newer design and are generally more reliable.

I have one of each (the split one came with my 20" rifle) and both work fine with 9 or less rounds.  Occasionally they will function with 10.
