Does anyone know how to remove the floor plate from Busmaster 10 rnd magazines? I assume the pin through the side holds the plate in, but I cannot remove it. Also before anyone jumps in and asks why. no its not to try to increase the capacity. I have several high capacity mags and would like to modify some of my bushy 10 rd to only hold 5 for hunting purposes. Thanks |

If you're referring to the old "frankenmags" that were made from 30-rounders that were cut in half and pinned back together on an aluminum block, the floorplates can be removed from these mags just like any other. If you're referring to the new, one-piece mags with the plastic floorplate/insert, these cannot be disassembled. That was a BATF requirement, due to the fact that the mag body is long enough that it could have been modified to hold more than 10 rounds had the floorplate been removable. -Troy |
| The mag I am refering to is the new ones with the plastic floor plate. I realize they are not supposed to be removeable, however I know there must be a way....I can always cut the florplate off and fab a new one with a larger block installed. Was just hoping not to have to rebuild a new floorplate all together. |

I haven't tried it but I guess that if one was to drill out the two black bumps -- perhaps drilling all the way through -- then maybe plastic rod or metal bolt could be used to refasten through the same hole? Just speculation until I try this myself. I am skeptical about the veracity of Bushmaster's claim that "taking apart the mag will destroy it." |
| Yes it can be done. May not be the prettiest but it is possible. The pin going through the side of the mag is slotted to accept a pin up through the plastic floorplate. After some "careful" drilling on the bottom of the floorplate, I exposed the pin. Then with some persuasion I finally removed the pin from the floorplate. Once done the pin through the side of the mag comes out easily allowing the floorplate/block to come out. Trust me when I say that the guy that put the pin up through floorplate had a strong attraction to copious amounts of epoxy, but it will come out eventually. Once I took the floorplate out, I placed a 3/8" dowel 3 1/8" long in the large recess in the floorplate/block. With the floorplate and plug installed the mag now only holds five rounds. I can still glue the pin back through the floorplate to hold the side pin in. |
