Does anyone know what markings if any are on Promag magazines? I have someone trying to sell me these 20rd. mags for $20.00 each. They are black metal mags with black followers and there is no writing or marking of any kind. I would appreciate any information anyone can give me on Promag magazines. Thanks.

Well, what firearm are the mags for? I knoe I have a lot of promag mags for Glock and Beretta and they donr have any markings.

Be careful your not getting a USA mag.

There are two style 20's I have. No marks on either. They have no holes on either side except the one that the mag catch goes in. Also on the front edge one style has two holes one near the top and one at the bottom. The other has the same holes on the front edge but it also has two raised bumps that snug the mag up in the mag well. They are made of steel about the same thickness as a GI Aluminum 20 rounder. They are not thin material like a lot of the aftermarket mags you see.

j3. These mags have the 2 holes in the front side at the top and bottom as do yours but no raised bumps anywhere. What is your opinion on these mags?

I have never had a problem with mine and got them cheap. I have seen some people post that theirs do not always lift the hold open on the last round. I put a GI spring and follower in one to see if it would fit and function and it did so I can rebuild them if needed too. The english mags for $15 is what I am buying now. I cannot find the promags cheap any more.

Because the ProMag 20's don't have a double thickness of metal on the front rib like USGI mags do, the ProMags have two largish dimples punched out of the front spine to reduce front-to-back play in the mag well.  ProMags are also about 1/4" longer than USGI mags due to the non-standard floorplate retainer.

Given the problems that I've had with them, I'd avoid them in favor of USGI mags, which you KNOW will work.

The older promags have the dimples the newer style do not have the dimples the mag body is bigger front to back than the dimpled ones. Some of the older ones have a split in one of the bends near the bottom on one side about 3/4 inch long also.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I would love to buy USGI's but they are very hard to find, for me anyway. I ran across one website that wanted 49.00 for NIW-USGI's and I think thats really to much. A lot of people say the Promag's are one of the better after market mags so that's why I was interested in that. I will gladly pay 25 or 30 bucks for new USGI's if anyone wants to sell.  Thanks.
