Does anyone have info on the accuracy of the American Eagle 55gr 223Rem FMJ ?  I was sighting in a new scope at 50 yards. Initially using Fed 5.56 XM193 and 62 Gr Green tip.  I got it fairly dialed in and was going to move out to 100 yards , but had a 20round mag of the 223 , so I decided to give them a try as well.. The were ALL OVER THE PLACE.  They were on the paper , but the 5.56's I had gotten to a 3 inch group , and the AE 223 spread out a  10" group at best.   Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Fired from a Savage Recon .223 Wylde Chamber , 5x PA prism scope

Your barrel doesn't like them. 10 inch groups at 100 yards is kind of unheard of, but I guess it's possible.
Invest in good ammo. Try enough to know what the rifle likes. You are probably using the last two on the ladder for accuracy.
AE does much better for me, but not the best.

next time out I'm taking IMI 77gr Razor Core 5.56 and Black Hills 77 gr OTM 5.56.  I have researched that they are pretty accurate.   Would the fact that it is a 223 Wylde have any effect on whether it likes 223 or 556 ?

I have about 100rds of the red box AE 223 left and they've been very inaccurate for me too.  Not as extreme as yours, but close to it.

Generally speaking, this is about the same performance as GI ammo, but it is .223 rather than 5.56. Or at least it is supposed to be. I can't remember if there are any AE variants for .223 with 55gr FMJ bullets. If there are, what specific kind was it?

The twist rate of your barrel/bullet weight can be ruled out because it liked the 55 gr XM193. For those who don't know, a 1:7 twist barrel and 55g bullets are not usually the best match. Google and read up on over stabilized bullets

Did you fire it again with the "good" ammo after the AE went 10MOA on you, and did you double-check the scope's mounts? I have a globe front sight on my Garand, and it came lose at the range last weekend.

If you rule everything out and it also craps out in a different rifle, you likely have a bad batch, as another poster said. If you have the box with lot info, maybe AE/Federal will reimburse you. It would be a good idea to hold on to the targets.

The Savage Recon has 1/8 5R Rifling.  Scope was tight. I am going out again next week and will update. Thank you for your input , please keep any comments coming , I appreciate it.

My 14.5" socom barrel doesn't like them at all !

Hard to even keep on paper at less than 50 yards - don't keep any anymore.

To the above poster, 1/7 twist and 55gr ammo is a perfect match.. Peoples & Armies around the world have been using this combo for decades without issue.

Anyway OP, No problem for me with AE223.
I shoot that stuff a lot from both my 1/7 and 1/9 barrels (5.56 chamber).
Groups just as fine as any other 55g ammo.

10" inch at 100yard is a lot!
Make sure something didnt come loose during the zeroing process or try a different lot of ammo If you can. I suppose xm193 grouped fine at 100 Yard right?

I usually get around 3" at 100 with AE. I know some really bad accuracy happens, the CBC I got does 8" at 100 in one rifle and 3" in my other...

It happens, don't over think it. Do check your rifle out to make sure there's nothing wrong, but if it shoots brands X and Y just fine, leave it at that.

I shoot 55 gr. mostly and have no issues - the AE223 though doesn't want to shoot well from my socom barrel ..
