I've "finished" my build, which is a take on the MK 12. I've got an assortment of ammo to see what it likes best, a mix of 223 and 5.56, even some MK 262.
However, at $1.00+ per shot, a fun weekend can get a little pricy. What's a good training ammo in the 77 grain range? I realize there a neck-beard ammo frenzy afoot, just looking for some opinions on what I should hunt down/look for? Thanks guys. |
| Cheapest 77gr I have seen is CBC at Palmetto State Armory, IIRC $37 for 50 rounds and I believe when they run it on sale it's $27, never tried it but did read mostly good reviews. PPU 75gr is another option, usually can be found for around .50 per round give or take a few pennies. |

The cbc was good stuff for the price. Before all the panic it was 30 quid for 50 rounds. I was getting 1.5 moa and i'm not that good a shot. With the ppu match my rifles shot the 69s better than the 75s. Stuff that i want to try but haven't yet include the imi , fiocci and silver state heavies. If you want to shoot the heavies on the cheap i'd suggest you expand your skill set to include reloading. For the price of a case of the stuff you could set yourself up with a sweet little reloading kit. |

If you are looking at short line ammo, why not just use M193?
At 100 the M193 should hold the x-ring in that rig. Otherwise, I agree the PRVI 75 is cheaper than BH 77 or BH 69 Match ammo. The IMI Razorcore is supposed to be a cheap copy of the SMK77 load, but I have not tried it myself. Most of the cheaper versions like the PRVI are still on the order of $0.70 per round, compared to the $1 for BH. |

I shoot mil surplus stuff quite often, but I like shooting out a little farther than 100 with this set up. After I got a few rounds in the 9 ring while zeroing I poped over to the 265 plate just cause Give Hornady Steel Match a try. 75 gr. Hornady match BTHP on top of Hornady powder in a Combloc casing and primer. |

I have had and seen very good luck with Fed. Tipped Varmint 50gr ( currently on sale at PSA ) and also GECO 55gr FMJ.
Neither are a ballistic match for 75-77gr , but both have proven to be quite accurate in my rifles and numerous friends rifles.... especially considering their price point. Noslers "Shooters Pro Shop" has frequently on sale factory blemishes and seconds. http://www.shootersproshop.com/nosler-products.html?p=4 Just an FYI... Here are my rifles velocity results with various 75-77gr and the 50gr TV and GECO 55gr. As with all ammo and rifles.... YMMV.
