I haven't been keeping up with the current prices.  Its just too depressing.  I've got a guy at work that wants to sell a 500 case of .223 American Eage 55 grain and buy some silver for his newborn grandson's savings..  These come in the black boxes and there's an AR-15 logo on the front side.  Can someone tell me the current going going price of this ammo?  Looking online, prices seem to be all over the place.

What can he get for this?

I usually see will buy it if it's anywhere between 45 cents being on the extremely low side and pushing it for me would be 75 cents a round. By the way silver is between $28-$29 on a good day per ounce. Hope this helps you both out!

I personally would not pay more than 50 cents a round. Offer him 250 for the 500 rounds go maybe 275 max. As the above poster said spot is usually high 28 low 29 recently. For physical silver you're not going to be able to get it at spot price.

I would suggest American Silver Eagles.
Best hassle free price here. 2.59 over spot and as you can see they even buy it over spot @ 30.46 current prices.

Thanks for clearing that up man. Same with me i will not really pay anything over 50 cents as well. The american silver eagles are easy to find and are easy to get rid of quickly since everyone knows what they are.

Not to go too far off topic here, but in regards to silver, I prefer "junk silver" AKA the pre 64 circulated coins.  Check out coinflation.com to find out how much they are worth and how much silver they contain.  Great resource. They are convenient in that they have proportional amounts of silver (5 dimes=2 quarters=1 half).  They demand much less of a premium than AEs.  I have a local pawn shop that I stop in often, been getting these coins for about 20 dollars per ounce of silver out the door.

ETA it's a shame that you don't live closer to CT...I'd offer to trade him silver for the ammo and not even have to worry about converting to the worthless greenbacks in between

Just before the panic, I bought the same exact ammo for $180.
