Ive had some PMC ammo stored in some SHTF mags for a few months now. Havent touched em since I put them in the mags and that havent been exposed to the elements at all. No rain, dirt, etc... However, I decided to check my mags and ammo today, and the shells have a lot of corrosion to them. A lot of what looks to be rust completly coats what used to be shiny brass. Is this just from loading the shells and some sort of rection from the oils on my skin? Poor quality? Or is this normal?
Im not an expert on ammunition, all I know is that I buy it, load it, and shoot it. The rounds have stayed in the mags for about 3 or 4 months now, have only been touched once, and never exposed to the elements. So I apologize if this is a topic beaten to death, an obvious answer, etc... Im just looking for some acvice on if it will still be g2g or use it now. thanks |
| It's defiantly not the ammos fault if it has corrosion or tarnish on the shells . I suspect oils from your hands or high humidity. Just clean the affected shells with a cloth rag and all will be fine. I see it all the time from hunters that just throw there ammo in a box at the end of hunting season. |
| Brass corrosion comes in two forms, "tarnish" and green, gritty corrosion. Nothing that looks like rust is the result of brass corrosion. Wipe down the rounds and see whether they clean up OK. Do not expect "shiny," because brass will darken, but it should look clean and smooth. |
