Hello, do bi-metal bullets, i.e. Wolf, Tula, etc., harm the rifling of the barrel due to the thin layer of copper over the metal substrate? Or, does the rifling cut right through the thin copper jacket and make contact?

Quoted: yes, but you have to shoot the same number as the copper gilded bullets to see the effect. Hello SgtSabre, thanks for the reply, I'm sure it's been discussed. I ran across a great article last night by a materiels inspection engineer, and he did a great test on the thickness of the copper jacket, by using state of the art micro-analysis measurement devices, and had proof that the rifling cut straight through the jacket (from fired rounds recovered totally intact) to about double the depth of the jacket (he had all of the nanometer thicknesses cataloged in his article). His conclusion is that this contact caused "hammering" and/or wear of the rifling to the point where after 1,500 rounds, his test barrel showed an almost complete loss of rifling (sounds silly, but he had the barrel brand, ammo brands, etc. to support his claim). I should have saved the article, but so many people shoot Russian ammo and are usually concerned with the case, that they do not realize the bullet itself may be the only harm to your rifle. Is this guy off base? I don't know, he seemed very legit to me. Do you know of any other threads where this has been addressed? Does anyone else out there have any experience with this issue, or am I just being overly concerned, I certainly do not want to shorten the barrel life of my new LWRC M6A2 S.B.R.
Thanks all for your viewing, and please let me know where to look for discussions, or personal experience. Tim. |

I've put at least 1500 rounds of various bimetal stuff in one gun. Still shoots as tight as before. I've seen that article, don't know what to make I it aside from maybe he wanted to hoard all the steel cased to himself.
There are people on here with thousands of rounds of steel cased without complaining |
